: bad diesel fuel???

I'm posting this for my husband Ralph so please bear with me. He has an 04' 2500HD Duramax Diesel GMC CrewCab, his first diesel (purchased new May 04).

At 32,000 miles a few weeks ago, we were headed up the interstate and it started downshifting at 2,000 RPMs. We limped into a local GM dealer and the diagnostics stated it needed a new fuel filter, DONE, and we were on our way. At almost 35,000 miles (today) the same thing happened again. We had another fuel filter installed (we were delivered meds for a corp. pharmacy so had to limp in locally and didn't take time for diagnostics as we plan to take in to the dealer locally (where purchased) on Monday. Needless to say, it wasn't fun driving over 100 miles home (took us 4.5 hours) as we had to shut if off, sit on the side of the road about 10x....tough getting up these Tennessee hills!!!

Can this be bad diesel fuel? :( We have been purchasing at different stations while on the road but never had any trouble until recently. Has anyone encountered this problem with their Duramax?

Thanks,

Jan for Ralph

Try some Stanadyne performance fuel additive. If this should work, then great. If not, might be some other issues. If bad fuel is there, it should clean some of it up.

I will look these codes up in the morning and post after work...about 5 ish...if some body doesn't help you sooner. I would tend to think that there is more than just bad fuel going on here though. If it is bad fuel your fuel system is really fouled up and they need to tear it down and find out what is damaged or stopped up. FYI....you might want to post this in the ask the tech section. Stanadyne may help some....it is a fuel additive and is the only one approved by Gm if you didn't know what that is. Hope this helps. Oh....and welcome to the board!:)

on edit: we have some of the best techs in the world surfing this board...hopefully one of them sees this.:ro)

those codes are:

po202 - Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 2
p2149 - not sure about this code, its not listed in my book, but Im pretty sure it is a
code that has to do with your fuel and air metering

hope that helps

P2149 - FICM (fuel injection control module)

You got an injector or wiring problem with cylinder #2. I doubt it is a fuel problem or a bad filter problem. Go to a dealer that has a diesel tech to fix the problem.
