Do the '03 and '04 motors have fewer injector problems than the '01 and '02s? If so why?

Thanks.

they seem to be better, the injectors have undergone a series of changes over the past few years and while still not perfect, the failure rate is reduced.

My 2003 just had bad injectors with only 8900 miles on it.

My question would be what type of injector failure are the 03 and up's having.... Are they also filling the crankcase with Fuel? Thats the only injector problem that would really worry me:rolleyes:

According to my dealers sales pitch, the LLY does not fill the crankcase because the injectors are external. 1 of my LLY's had 3 bad injectors when new. The other has been fine. My 03 just had a set put in at 70,000 miles. Both my 01's had 2 sets each in 150,000 miles.

my 02 has 94,000kms and has never had a problem ( knock on wood ). but my question is am i crazy to be buying expensive diesel conditioners to add lubricity to the dry winter fuel ? warranty is good for what ... 7 years or 300,000 ... so why don't i just let the injectors go fualty so i can the improved ones.... i don't know. any thoughts ?

Some people have had their injectors changed even with conditioners and added filtration. I see your point though. I'm waiting to add a Nicktane filter to mine when my injectors go south again;) If Dmaxallitech (Eric) didn't check my VIN and get the low down for me I wouldn't have known that the injectors and pump were changed just prior to me buying the truck. Its true that the new LLY engine design will not allow fuel to enter the crankcase from a bad injector/return line. The later 03 stuff still has the same trouble as the early stuff, high return rates, body cracks, etc. I have replaced them for the same reasons as the early units. Additive is a good idea and its really not that expensive. One bottle of FPPF for 10 bucks will run 250 gallons of fuel.

Warranty on 01-02 models is good for 7 yrs and 200k so thats a good long time for sure. While you can just 'neglegt' the system in hopes that they fail so you may be able to get new ones but the bad side of that is that when it does decide to fail, its not gonna be when its convinient for you.

What keeps the newly installed replacement injectors from failing prematurely again?

And, does the warranty restart when the injectors are replaced?

Thanks.

The quality if the installation will be first and foremost on preventing premature failure again. After that, we are left to the mercy of the design..

Warranty is good to 7yr 200k only.
