The V clamp that holds the down pipe to the bottom of the turbo, how tight should it be? Should there be any gap in between the clamp ends where the adjusting screw is?

i tightened the hell out of mine with one of those ratcheting wrenches as i couldn't get anything else in that space and be able to turn it. if you can turn the downpipe and it rotates then the clamp is too lose i'd say. but thats just me.

Tight as tight can be for me :D

I use an 11mm ratcheting wrench too, need to take the airbox out of the way...

Lol just kidding.... But here's a pic anyway... Your welcome :p:
You can see how close the gaps should be in this pic

lol maybe i just have a sick sense of humor though:D:eek: but back on topic yea i did the same with the clamp. it worked fine for me too. i just have the downpipe touching the frame so it makes this annoying vibrate noise at idle in gear sometimes as the motor mounts let the engine flex a little bit. theres maybe a 1/16 of an inch space when idling in park but once in gear the mount mounts flex enough that the pipe touches. gotta redo a few things when its not 10Deg F outside. damn cold

When i replaced the downpipe with a 3" mandrell one, i used a 1/4" ratchet & 10mm socket. Tightened it as tight as i could get it with the 1/4" ratchet, pretty tight. I also had to "dimple" the downpipe slightly to clear the frame. Very slightly, maybe 1/4" at most.

I tightened mine until it looks about like the picture WhiteK2500 posted. I guess I did it right. Thank you guys.

Like dave said, as long as it doesn't wiggle or slide, and it's on there tight and doesn't leak, it's good.

iamdave,

Be careful about the downpipe rubbing on the frame for too long a time. My downpipe was intermittently rubbing against the inner fender well, and the chafing rubbed a lot of material off of the pipe. If I had not caught it sooner, it might have rubbed a hole in it.
