Will a 700r4 from 1991 go in my 86 trouble free. Also, i think the 91 is from a gas, but i got a diesel governor, and TQ.

should do...does it look the same....and again i don't know if it can go in, because it's a gasser, but personally wouldn't do it, internals may not be as beefy....with the depth you have gone into to get a tranny working for the truck, i think it's time to take the hit and just rebuild man....

I've got a gasser '86 700R4 in my '93 chevy with a olds 5.7 diesel and it does just fine.I know the olds does'nt have high torque numbers but it drives fine on the highway.Don't quote me on this but I think usually the V6 and L4 engines with 700R4 transmissions have a lesser quantity of clutch discs internally.

Yes, it will work as long as it is a 700R4 (or I suppose a 4L60) and not the later 4L60E with the electronic controls.

The later 700R4s are better than the early ones, and the 4L60 is probably the best of the 700R4 "series".

The '91 transmission may have an electronic speedometer drive, it can be changed, but consider it.

Don't reuse you old diesel torque converter, especially not considering the contaminants you found in your old transmission. You'd be asking for trouble. Either buy a new diesel torque converter (I think they are about $100) or use the gas converter on the '91 trans. You can run a gas converter on that truck with only relatively minor performance differences if you have to, it just revs up a little higher when you start moving. Honestly I would start out with the gas governor too. I'd put it in just like it is assuming it is supposed to be good.

Yesterday actually... Or maybe the day before, it's been hectic... I've been sort of working with the staff for like a month on some forum changes that are upcoming though. There are actually 15 (I think) new mods that just started at the same time I did...

I try to act the same as any other member... As far as the post count though? ):h
