: Limped Allison
turbo lcc 01-14-2005, 06:10 PM I have a buddy who just limped his Allison for the first time this morning. with less than 3000 miles on the truck. My question is how many time can he limp it before it is junk and will it limp easier the second time?
duramaxdiesel 01-14-2005, 08:16 PM What's he running?
dmaxalliTech 01-14-2005, 08:32 PM its junk already.
Mike L. 01-14-2005, 10:31 PM The TCM (trans control module) is very protective of the Ally, but if you sneak up on it with a blast of power, you blindsided it and it can only react. Everytime you do that you damage a clutch. The stock clutches can take a lot and keep working. The next blast will hurt it easier than the first because you weakend the clutches on the first blast; and so on.
turbo lcc 01-14-2005, 11:06 PM Thanks for the info, I will pass it on.. He is running a predator on the 100hp level. He had been running it for 4 days

Highmark 02-13-2005, 10:53 PM What happens when you limp the allison? How expensive is it to repair?

Need more info to answer that properly. Not every limp requires a trans teardown. How much power, how long, how many times limped are all questions that enter my mind. Factory clutches (Borg Warner) are the very best clutches available, bar none, and will take a lot of punishment before they let you down.

Gas Ex 02-14-2005, 02:54 AM Hi Mke,
I talked to you on the phone about two weeks ago, I'm up by Salem Oregon.
I not smart and limped mine about 4-5 imes w/edge-***. and Diablo on 65, one of those on with Diablo on 40 hp. Should I worry about my tranny, the Warranty is almost up!
Thank You
Slick 02-14-2005, 11:45 AM If you are limping the thing on a 40 tune,-:t :help2: I would say its on its last leg.:thumbsdow
Gas Ex 02-14-2005, 12:08 PM The 40 horse was on top of the edge/*** on 5. Sorry should have been more specific. It didn't limp that easy before so now I don't stack them. It does seem a little wierd with the Edge on 5 now? when it shifts in to OD I think it is Backing down a lot!
Thank You

I got my first diesel on order and have been taking a lot of info in before it arrives. I just wanted to know what to look for when I start to upgrade the power output incase the inevitable happens.
