I found the location on the driver's side front fender, but before I break something, would like to know the proper procedure (and any tools needed) for proper removal.

Thanks in advance.

Not much of a procedure... Pop your hood and look at the driver side fender well. (LBZ, not sure about others) The silver cartridge looking thing with two large cable harnesses going to it is the ECM. The two large cable harnesses have a lever that will help you disengauge them from their connector. Disconnect both and the ECM is then only held in by two thumb tabs. Pull them up and push the ECM away from the mount. Put new ECM in place, re-install cables. Viola!

IIRC, there are two little handles that you pull up gently. This will release the connectors from the ECM. Then there are 2 clips that you can pry up with your thumbs that will release the ecm from the mount. Hope it helps...
