I doubt GM's is if that's what you are refering to. If you're refering to a SBC I've been using and abusing mine for 75K+ miles with 425-475RWHP :D.

Mine was replaced @30k and now has 114k. No Problems...Gearhead, are you still looking for sturgis parts? My buddy tore down an '82 FXB and has all the Sturgis specific parts.

Mine was replaced at 87K IIRC and was shot by 95K . Came out in pieces . That was the 3rd one the PO told me. I went with a SBC at 97K or so and have almost 175K now and it's still going strong.

There was supposed to be an upgrade a few years back. Depending on when your truck was built it might not have it. Hard to say. My second one was the newer version and it was replaced two years ago. Still the original clutch at 120K. Putting a used clutch on a new flywheel took a lot of life out of it.

If you're under warranty there's no harm in getting a new one but long term you might want to go aftermarket. I can't see laying out good money on a new clutch if my flywheel might let go again any day.

Bear in mind, a new clutch will be the best upgrade you can do for a ZF6 truck. once you have gone SBC there is no more feathering the pedal trying not to make noise from the bell housing area and wondering when you will no longer be able to go because the pedal is stuck to the floor.

Agreed but as long as it was still under warranty I wasn't going to waste money on a new setup. I'm cheap and I'll admit it. I drove 20K miles with a growling flywheel before replacing it under warranty. The clutch itself has giving me any real issues until last summer around 110K. Even now it holds pretty well until 6th gear. I've had to pull the clutch pedal up only three times. Yes I have a measly 110 tuner and don't pull, race, or do much of anything. An SBC is on the horizon this summer and I'll probably be in the market for a bigger tune once it's in.:D

My biggest gripe is too many people jumping straight to..."you gotta get rid of that POS stock setup. I've gone thru X flywheels and the SBC dual is the only thing that will work." Great, if you want to play you have to pay. 10 years ago I'd be right there with you. Life has my priorities in a different spot right now. For those who have had bad luck or have the power turned way up and made the switch great. Some of us are still here with closer to stock setups that are happy with what we have or will have no problems with a single disc setup.

OK, I'm stepping off my soapbox to fetch another beer!

Still looking @ a 2001 LB7 ZF6 2wd. I want to keep the engine stock. (not enough $ to have too much fun!:D) The heaviest trailer pulled will be a 20ft 14K bumper pull. I will be babying it, no racing, just towing the aftermentioned trailer, and daily driver needs.

It has a new clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing. So if I understand this post, I have the upgraded flywheel? Will this las a long time (100K) the way I will use it? Or would I need a South Bend Clutch?

Yes

Let me know what you need and I'll see what can be done. My buddy hurt his back and won't be riding for a while, so all his bike stuff is actually for sale.

I just installed a new stock flywheel that replaced one that was supposed to already be the upgraded part number. This flywheel I got was different than the old one it replaced. It has more rivets, built different, looks better. My new problem is the clutch going away, I have never had that problem with any of the other my last set ups. I changed the pressure plate, disc and slave unit and with highway driving and no load the clutch is fading in the pedal and I am afraid that when I hook up the the 5th wheel I am going to have a problem...was there a fluid change or a cooler to help with that.

the pedal feels like there is air in the line...you know the ole pedal goes to the floor syndrome....I think I got it. after it cools everything is back to normal, pedal stiff from the very top

I thought it was posted somewhere that the fluid boils or a fluid change to a different DOT number would help.
