: Not Enough Back Pressure?

Hi,

I have been looking into running transfer truck pipes on my 94 Chevrolet 6.5L. The plan was to run a 4" pipe off the down pipe, then split it into two and run it through the bed into 5" stacks. I talked to a guy on the phone earlier today and he said that he thought if I did that it would kill the power of the truck. He thought that with that big of pipe I wouldn't have enough backpressure to make boost!?!? What do yall think? I have several mods. done to my truck as you can see in my signature. I don't mind loosing a little power now cause I will be adding more stuff later on, it just depends on how much power I am going to loose!

Thanks John Kruckeberg

The turbo itself creates back pressure. Go for it.

Thanx, that is what I was thinking too! But for some reason he had his heart set that it wouldn't make enough boost with that big of pipe! ):h

All the exhaust goes through the turbine so it seems like it would only help your turbo spool up faster. I know non-turbo engines can have too little back pressure and lose power but I don't think a turbodiesel suffers from that problem.

I do't know where people get these ideas. If I remember correctly, the ideal turbo exhaust expands from the outlet in a 7 degree cone - no back pressure in that.
