: I hate theives!!! Locking fule cap?
I went out to move my truck tonight and the fule gauge is on empty! Someone siphoned my fule. I guess the only good part is that there was only 1/4 tank in there. The bad part is now I have to go buy a gas can for diesel, fill it up to dump in the truck. I dont want to risk running out of fule between here and the gas station. So is GM part #15070014 the correct # for the GM locking cap? This is for a 2005 Duramax LLY. Also what is the best locking cap out there? Thanks in advance.
moss022 01-13-2005, 11:38 PM maybe thats why i live here in illinois!!!!
Max Power 01-13-2005, 11:41 PM You will get the last laugh. Chances are they thought they were stealing gas. ):h
michael nelson 01-13-2005, 11:43 PM I bought a fram from kragen for about 15 bucks.$15 for fuel insurance aint bad,and it works well, locks and unlocks..........sorry about your misfortune, there is nothing worse than a theif in my opinion.
moss022 01-13-2005, 11:48 PM you know max......the way people think today, they dont know what diesel is!!!! they dont even know where milk comes from for pete sake
michael nelson 01-13-2005, 11:48 PM max power is most likely correct, drive around town tommorow and look for broken down volkswagons on the side of the road..........;)
ktmrfs 01-14-2005, 12:03 AM I found gm did not have a locking cap listed for the late model duramax BUT, it turns out that the cap for a 95 s-10 fits. It also turns out that STANT lists the same pn for a duramax as an s-10. The gm s-10 cap sure looks like a stant locking cap.
tophog 01-14-2005, 01:09 AM I'm more worried about someone putting something bad in my tank rather then stealing fuel. Years ago someone put bb's in my dad's truck tank ...probably an ex-wife :) I don't have any enemies or such, just don't like the thought of anyone having access to the tank. Call me paranoid ...
WAskier 01-14-2005, 02:04 AM Another advantage to them that I've posted here before. My buddies dad has an MG that was stolen well he had a metal locking gas cap on it and they found it on the side of the road with the gas cap all beat up like they had pried it with a screwdriver but still there blocking the filler neck.
Yeah, It is very possible they thought they were getting gas. I live up on a hill and have the only diesel up here. It sucks to know that probably one of my neighbors is doing this. Last spring they broke into my 1996 GMC. They didnt really get much, but as I found out later I got off easy. In one night they stold 3 vehicles, left 1 in front of my house and broke in to ~5 others. This to me seams like somebodys teenage kids doing all of this. I just hope they grow out of this crap fast. I actually live in a really good neighborhood (at least I thought I did).
BH in AZ 01-14-2005, 03:36 AM Here is another recent thread discussing locking fuel caps and it lists several model and part numbers.

GMDude 01-14-2005, 04:40 AM I've had good luck with CSK (Checker, Schucks, Kragen) auto parts. Im sure those bCensored rds at AutoZone could help..

JimmyDel 01-14-2005, 11:29 AM Is it possible that the fuel is still there? Do you have a scan tool you can use to check for codes (the fuel sending unit codes usually don't turn on the dash light)? There are a few PI's in the system that describe some problems with the fuel sending units and the fuel transfer lines that can cause a code, and the fuel gauge to be commanded to show empty.
NorCal 2500HD 01-14-2005, 12:03 PM Yeah 1 of the joys of living in the Bay Area!!!!!
whityinfl 01-14-2005, 01:51 PM I bought a Stant from Walmart. It was the cheaper of the two models that worked for me. It was my first mod.... and money well spent! I also fear that someone would sabotage the motor more than steal 20-30 bucks of diesel. It is just cheap insurance....if someone really wanted to get it off I am sure they could, but it would make it more difficult.

I was wondering about that. I remember reading about some sender problems on here but I don't remember the details. Is it a standard OBD 2 scanner? If so I have one and can try that. Otherwise I was going to pay attention to how much it took to fill it up, Correct me if I am wrong but it should be a 26 gallon tank. 2005 2500HD crew cab short bed 4x4.
briano 01-14-2005, 01:57 PM no kidding..someones car/truck in the next day or so is going to smoke like a mug and break down.
that is crazy..I don't care what you steal, you are still a theif in my book! More times than not if you ask someone they will give it to you.
there is a video floating around of a diesel idling in park with the fuel lines disconnected..so I think you will be ok driving to the station LOL
BlackMaxx 01-14-2005, 02:20 PM I used the locking gas cap off of my 1991 Silverado and I have had no problems so far (6000 miles). It may be that any locking gas cap will work.

...So is GM part #15070014 the correct # for the GM locking cap? This is for a 2005 Duramax LLY...
In a word- YES

LARSONEM 01-18-2005, 12:38 PM Many years ago, I had an old farmer friend who had gasoline and diesel farm tanks and never locked anything because he trusted everyone. He suspected that someone was stealing gasoline from him. When it was dry he convinced the fuel driver to fill the gasoline tank with diesel. About a week later he said the kid across the road had the hood up on his car looking at it. Glenn said he meandered across the road for a chat just to shoot the breeze. He said he could smell the diesel fuel and asked the kid if he was having car problems. Of course the answer was yes. Glenn said he just walked away and didn't say anything or offer help. End of fuel stealing problems.
XR-Freak 01-18-2005, 03:05 PM I bought a billit aluminum locking door from
www.calcarcover.com (http://www.calcarcover.com)

They have black or polished or chrome. You could probably have it powder coated any color you want
cadent45 01-18-2005, 03:07 PM Is the cap vented?

:ro) That's a good way to teach someone..... hopefully the car was fuel a fuel injected gasser.... i would think purging the system of diesel would be a bit costly.
Autoed 01-18-2005, 04:32 PM Is the cap vented?
Due to Federal Emissions Requirements, I don't believe any fuel caps are vented in the old sense of the term anymore, although I think they have a high pressure/ vacuum relief mechanism.

Well not to start an arguement but I had called the dealler the other day after posting this and asked for a locking cap for the 2005. They told me that GM dose not list one yet. So I had him check the #15070014 part, he said that came up as the gas cap for the LB7 duramax. I asked and he said no it was not the same as the LLY cap due to the emission system. Now is there really a difference??? Hell I dont know??? But it dose make sence that it could releave the vacume at a different pressure. After getting nailed at the smog check 2 years in a row on my Jeep for the gas cap, I am a little cautious about wasteing my money on a cap that may not pass the test.

i really need one too
Autoed 01-20-2005, 07:48 AM The GM parts catalog actually DOES NOT LIST a locking cap for any diesel after 2003, however GM#15070014 fits my 2005.
7,000 MILES AND COUNTING- no codes, no problems, NO Theives!
I can not vouch for CA emissions requirements.
(but I'm no parts expert)
