This calendar year? Meaning Sept or Oct 2008 or really 18 months away? Most articles I see state it meets 2010 emissions standards, but never very definitive about exactly when the trucks will be sold.

Thanks for any info.

From what I've read, the 4.5 will be introduced in 2009 in a 2010 truck/suv/etc.

I went to a car show an talked to a guy about this he seemed to be familiar, but most of those folks are pretty actors and not tech folks. However this is what he said (roughly) they are hoping to keep the cost significantly below the current cost of the 6.6 d-max.

I haven't read about it anywhere, and it could be an actor talking out his yoohoo.

I was SO hoping to get a new burb with a 4.5L and a Z71 sticker on the side of it this summer. Shit.

With their SUV sales dropping and losing money plus the CAFE pressure - can't see how that would make sense - that timing will completely miss the market and their financial needs. 2011 half the country will be riding bicycles at the rate fuel prices are climbing.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. GM is usually late to market though with an engine this complicated I don't suppose trying to rush it into production would be the wisest move.

Yes. Better late than to have big quality problems. I want a good one of these in about 3 years:D.

Longer GM waits the quicker competition catches up as well as GM ideas and technology head toward obsolescence.

Friend of family(an engineer w/generous motors). My brother was disappointed to hear this from him as well w/five rugs rats to cart around he was hoping to get rid of his old burb for a diesel one. I guess patience is a virtue.G

If this is true then why did GM already debut a suburban with the 4.5L, why didn't they debut a 1500 with the 4.5L. I think they will all be available at the same time. Maybe the suburban will come out first? Just my opinion.

GM brought the NNBS SUV's out first because they are cash cows. No reason they shouldn't do the same with a motor they can tout as "fuel efficient."

Reason GM is taking long with the 4.5 is because this is a brand new from the ground up engine. The older people working on it remember the disappointment (and subsequent destruction of the diesel market in the US) of GMs last attempt at a diesel in the 80s. No margin for error, would rather be late on timing than deliver a half-assed engine.
