I am looking at buying a dodge for a commercial pullin truck (dually, 6spd, cummins) in the near future. I am very unfamilliar with their hp #'s, what kind of rwhp is possible with stock injectors/turbo and only with intake, exhaust, and a good chip. As you all can see by my sig i drive a psd and love it, its just very expensive to get alot of rwhp out of these things and i cant get more than 9-10mpg while towing. i just need something that is going to get better fuel mileage while towing

Thanks in advance,
Luke

Maybe the Cummins will not give you better fuel mileage? What do you tow?

Reason I mentioned that is I have towed 43ft. tri-axle trailers that were over 12ft. high and built like a box. Pull them into a headwind heading West and you will be lucky to hold 9mpg. My little boat tows at 16mpg and the loaded 16ft. box trailer I tow gets me 14mpg.

Again.....what do you tow?

captain,

I tow a 24' tandem axel flatbed, fully loaded i usually will have a gvw of 24000, sometimes more sometimes less though. i only get 12-14 mpg empty cruisin down the hwy.

With a TST a customers truck got 434hp, stock everything. With a TST and a pressure box stack you can get around 475 to 495hp, at this level it is not all usable but alot of it is with and exhaust system and a good air intake kit.

Stroker1,

Doubt if you will do much better on fuel mileage towing with the Cummins. Wind resistance is the major issue and you have little to improve on with that flat-bed trailer.

The Cummins pulls loads easily but I think there is a finite limit on how much fuel mileage you can get while towing. Get one, beef that baby up and let us know.

Good mileage with a Cummins? Still waiting. Hopefully more miles will improve mileage. Only getting 14's empty driving like an old lady or running harder its still the same. 6600 miles.

I definately miss the mileage of my d-max so far.
