I'm going to change my Lift pump and fuel filter and would like to know the safest way to bleed the air. I know there is the bleed valve on top of the filter, but how do I purge the air without unneeded wear on the engine.

Can I just turn my ignition on and that should turn on my lift pump, therefore I can just bleed from the valve? Once the air is out I can then start? Or do I need to crank the engine to bleed the air (sounds hard on the starter)? Will air get between the filter and injectors after I replace the filter? How do I make sure that air is out?

Thank you

Mgray the last hour you have been asking basic FAQ covered info, I suggest before taking that trip to Mexico you spend time in FAQ ,maybe print what is written there, it will be far more informative than the Haynes manual which tends to cause more questions that answer them IMO; look in FAQ OPS/Lift pump thread your answer lies there.

Also take time now to update your signature with truck info, follow link in mine for info for that

Just turn the ignition on, open the bleeder until the air is out. Start the engine. If it dies, just repeat the starting procedure agian (glows, wait to start, crank). Wait about 30 sec. between cranking, so the starter won't be getting hot. At least after 3rd attemp the engine should run as before.

Yeah I thought I would be flammed today....I'm just running outa time and feel anxious since there is so much to do, which is why I had hopped to buy my truck a few months before the trip rather than a couple weeks. I have read the FAQ, but I guess I need to read it again since I didn't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

Either way I appreciate your help thanks....sig will be done as soon as I get home
