: Allison getting warm?? no towing
sander 01-13-2005, 04:12 PM Dear All
Still love this forum!
I am nwe to GM with my (to me) new truck.
It is a chevy 3500 dually 6.6 with the allison.
Just driving highway (a little spirited) but not going crazy, the tranny temp allready goes to the 200dg mark.
Is this normal? It never came that high in my PSD excursion even when towing.
This just makes me a little iffy, because in 3 weeks I will be receiving my
new 40ft enclosed gooseneck!
Does anyone foresee a problem or is this normal for the Allison?
Thanks for any info somebody can give me !!
robbdmax 01-13-2005, 04:16 PM I just got a 2500HD CC and my Allison hardly gets above 100. 1000 miles so far, and no changes.
snowsdog 01-13-2005, 04:22 PM Mine runs around 130 to 140 normal driving, never moves the guage in the winter without the grille covered. Runs around 200 when I tow my fifth wheel. 200 by itself seems a little high!
what does the fluid look like ? amount ? might be a good time to flush and fill, also syn might run cooler for you like Transynd. chagne the spin on filter as well and this will be your benchmark...
Reineke 01-13-2005, 05:36 PM Mine is at the 150* mark and steady.
k_lou 01-13-2005, 08:33 PM Mines hits 200 from time to time just in normal driving and in 85 degree weather, and i am not punching it, i take it easy
NCMIC 01-13-2005, 09:39 PM mine has been that way for 59K now. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this time. It all depends on the temp outside. Just keep an eye on it when towing. Do a test run when you get your gooseneck. If it creeps too high, bring it in to the stealer.
sander 01-18-2005, 03:15 PM Well thanks for all the info.
The reply are a little mixed but I see a few more who have the same thing going on.
I will keep a close eye on it and check all fluids.
The truck has now only 9200miles on it so the fluid should be ok.
Thanks for all your help. (will use more often)!
briano 01-18-2005, 03:38 PM that seems odd to me that its getting that hot with no load. I just pulled car and trailer 200 miles and the temp never got above 130.
maybe its as simple as a clogged line or something. maybe take it in for a check up just in case, don't want something to happen later on that could have been prevented.
just my $.02
blown65 01-18-2005, 04:02 PM My 03 seemed to run about 150 most the time, my new 05 is pretty much the same, but has 300 miles so it may change as it breaks in more.
crewcab03 01-18-2005, 08:35 PM my 03 crew cab dually usually runs at 150 towing 12k up the arbuckle mountains in OK it jumped up to 200 210, was also running 80 climbing it so..... I would check the fluids in it, dealer might has underfilled it upon delivery from the factory.
StraitDiesel 01-19-2005, 08:27 AM In the summer my Ally temp was around 130 of so... but in the winter it would never climb above the 100 mark... I added my own winter cover and it gets up to around 130 now.

Robgmcman 01-19-2005, 01:09 PM my 05 5,000 miles never went over 160 but the last 1000 miles it likes to hit 190-200. I hope like you all is ok and it is just hotter out side or something.
DMAXMO 01-19-2005, 08:16 PM Seems like I read in the owners manual that you shouldn't idle the truck with the tranny in gear for very long at a time(5 mins. or less)or the temperature will go up.
mikegolfmc 01-21-2005, 06:41 AM Mine did the same thing. Then the planetary's went out on it. GM replaced the tranny. Make sure GM defaults all computer settings on replacement.
killerbee 01-21-2005, 07:30 AM If you are getting 200 empty in the winter, level ground, you probably have a problem, if OAT's are under 60.
You don't give a very good description of the operating conditions, or your location.
