I am headed to northern NH in a week and staying for 8 days. The temps will be cold. I want to prevent any issues with the colder weather and the filter not being a little cleaner.

I bought my truck last April and have 6300 miles on it. The DIC says the fuel filter is 53%. Would you guys recommend to change it now or wait till the DIC goes lower and/or I have more miles? I think I am okay but I have a spare filter I can use to change before I leave.

Better to be safe than sorry... change it... it's cheap insurance....

Change it.

The fuel filter life is only a countdown from 15,000 miles. It's not like the oil life monitor and will not adjust to the driving conditions.

yeah, I'd rather spend my time snowmobiling in NH than changing filters on the road.....

This is not entirely accurate. At least with the LMM's when I have had fuel filter icing, the DIC fuel filter life responded very quickly based, I'm assuming, on filter output flow or pressure. I had 400 miles on one filter, had reset the DIC when it was changed, and got 0% again when it iced and wouldn't flow.

From my cold weather experience, definitely change the filter. Cheap insurance for $25.00 and a half hour.

change it. this is not something you want to be doing on the roadside if you can avoid it. For the 1st time in over 5 years of owning this truck I actually had a filter clog in just over 8,000 miles. DO IT when it's easy versus taking the chance of having to do it in poor conditions.

I agree with everybody above. I had gelling and filter problems at -40 and you don't ever want to go through that on a trip, especially with the kids in the truck. Northern NH this time of year can go down to -20, at night, on a regular basis.

Change it. The temps up here are trending downward. It would be a good idea to bring a spare also.

Thanks everyone. The task is on the list for tomorrow and will get that done. Yes, I do have a extra one I carry with me. I use Stanadyne Perf Formula every fill up in the winter.

I agree better to do in the home driveway than on the side of the interstate or at the cabin.

Is the fuel that you leave Connecticut with treated the same for cold temperatures as the fuel that you buy in New Hampshire?

Not sure if the fuel in CT is same as up north. I usually can make it to Wells River with 1/4 tank left and fuel up at the truck stop there and then fill up again in Pittsburg.

Yeah it was a little more than $8. :) But it is changed and we are good to go.

I'd like to know where the $8 deal is as well. That sounds like an oil filter price.

Fuel is blended for the area in which it is sold. Within reason, of course.

Yes I have a bottle of 911 under seat I bought back in December. Hope I don't need it but who knows.

Just got back from 8 days in Pittsburg, NH. With the exception of Monday the temps ranged from below zero f to low teens f for highs. No problems with the fuel system. I did manage to freeze the MAP sensor but that turned out okay and will have the TSB done for that next week.
