Well all is well. The tank (according to my fuel guage) hold exactly 50 gallons between fillups.

I have no idea how much is sitting in the bottom below the "empty" mark on my fuel guage.

I have dual filters and Im not willing to run her dry to find out.

The way I drive (fast) I get between 8-900 between fillups.

The brass fittings on the side are wet around them. I think I need to pull them and put some plumbers tape on them.

That should have been done at the factory since they were pre-installed.

Everything else is good and no problems.

worth the headaches of installing at home?

Hey Prob,

I've had mine in since Christmas. I have noticed that when refilling, I put in as much as the DIC says I used (within a 1/2 gallon). Someday I will fill up the 5 gallon can and run the tank dry so I know where empty is.

So far I love it but I guess I need to check the fittings as well. And I think pipe compound might be better than teflon tape around the diesel fuel. Do you agree?

Did you have to retighten the straps? Also, do you have nerf bars installed? I have to redesign the back brace since the tank is in the way now.

I installed mine since I couldn't find anyone to do it at any price. Glad I did now since I saved a pile of $$$. It's doable if you aren't in any hurry. 7 hours seems to be the average.

Where do these tanks mount? Do they replace the old tank or is this an extra tank that ties into the fuel system? Thanks Chris

Hey ProblemChild: My mechanic persuaded me to bypass the multi-point fuel pickup, so I sent it back (hassle). He was not comfortable with how the tubing connected to it-- felt it was a risk to try to MAKE it fit (had something to do with the positioning, I can't remember the details). He mentioned that there was a reserviour in the tank-- apparently the fuel is drawn up into the reserviour (maybe a quart) which would eliminate the need to have constant access to the fuel at the pickup point. I read another post about someone with a SuperTank that got it REALLY low, without any problems, which may confirm the point.

Anyway, I was wondering if you ever installed your kit, and how it went?

Paul.

Paul,

How long have you had your tank installed and how far have you been able to run before sucking air? I assume you are asking ProbChild about the holley pickup since you are sucking air with your current setup??

I have no idea how you would get the holley pickup to work with the factory pickup considering its construction.

Do you know if your mechanic was talking about the factory pickup/sending unit canister or is there a seperate reservoir built into the supertank??

Thanks,
OD

Does anyone have a site or link to these tanks. I would be interested in looking at them. Any figures on what they cost with parts and all. You said it's about a 7 hour job on average is this a pretty easy install or more complicated? Thanks Chris

installed mine last weekend took about 7hrs I have the nicktane filter and would advise connecting fuel line to the factory metal fuel line that goes to the engine and then mount the tank in position before routing the fuel line to the filter. top of tank has to be free of obstuctions (learned the hard way) I dumped 8gls in tank drove 12 miles to get fuel it took 49.5 gls to fill. I would also recomend removing the two barbed fittings for the cross over vent and teflon tapping them. mine also leaked only about a tablspoon of fuel and only when the tank is full, but still a leak. over all very satisfied with product. installation is not that difficult just time consuming trying to a nice job.

Had it installed on 12/28. No problems with sucking air-- I was just trying to have some insurance in case I ever DID run really low. I brought 5 gallons of diesel to my mechanic, and he added another 15 gallons. I drove around for a while to test it out, and all seemed well. So, I went to a truck stop and dropped in 50 gallons. That was two weeks ago, I still have more than 1/2 a tank, and 450 miles on the trip odometer. My wife is having a hard time grasping this, but she (we) are really happy with the sense of comfort.

It appeared to me that the supertank had it's own reservoir. Eros at Supertanks if very friendly and helpful, and could give you more details. The other rep too (can't remember his name, "Eros" is easy to remember).

There is a overstock sale on LB7 models.... $500.... which I think is a GREAT deal. Very happy I picked one up.

What did you guys do about the factory cooler when you installed the LB7 tank? (the $500 one) Relocate or remove? I like the idea of saving money but I'm tempted to go with the newer (pricyer) tank that leaves the factory cooler in place. Thoughts?
Thanks

The LB7 Supertank comes with a finned tubing of some sort, that serves to dissipate heat in place of the factory cooler. I haven't seen this, but this is what I've been told. If desired, the factory cooler can be retained by relocating it, but it's not really necessary, so I didn't have this done. --Paul.

I installed mine back in September and love it. On the LB7 tank you do need to remove the factory cooler. As small as that thing was at best it was only something for looks. The finned tubbing that comes with the tank is approximately 8 feet long and would do a much better job in cooling the fuel then the factory cooler. Besides, with a 75 gallon tank, it would take a long time to heat it up. During the installation I bypassed a step that saved some time. I did not drop my driveshaft and had no problems at all. I too paid the $500 for the tank, however, shipping to Alaska was $220.

Where did you find the $500 pricing? Did you just call them? I live about 4 hours from there place in Idaho Falls. might have to make a run over there.

Yes call them. I just talked with Supertanks and they have a few older styles left at that price. They will not work with the LLY motor since GM changed the sending unit.

Has anyone had their tank's on for a while that can comment if they have had any problem's with having to remove the factory cooler and going to the dealer for any fuel related issues? Did the dealer say anything about the missing cooler, or deny fuel related warranty work because of it? Like injector's, or pump, or anything else cooled by the fuel.
I like the idea of installing the tank but am concerened about dealer problem's later.

Thx
DD

I love my 70 Gal tank. I have run with the low fuel light on for about 50 miles before I refuled. Then added 67 gals. This was the best thing I did to my truck.. I hate stopping at the gas station.

flduramax,
Did you move the factory cooler or eliminate it? Was hoping to get a tank installed before our trip to Florida in 3 weeks but don't think it's going to happen, maybe later this summer.

Installed the Supertank on Saturday. Went very smoothly. I did have to move my airbag compressor but that was not too much of a hassle. took right at 4 hours to do. Had the shop lift and a transmission jack. Helper was my 11 YO son. His only issue was why does diesel smell "yucky"? I just told him it smells like power waiting to burn. thanks all for the good recommendations!

question: How long after did you wait to change fuel filter? I am concerned about little plastic bits from the manufacturing process.

I burned one tank and changed both filters. Bit they had 10k anyways.....
