Right now I have the factory Bose 6cd system, cd is broke! I'm also using the Nuvi650 but am considering the Pioneer AVIC-D3.

Been doing a bit of reading, looks ok but some considerable expense in extra modules for install, newer iPods can't pass video, and I have a feeling nav wont be quite as accurate as the Garmin.

So why would I want a D3?

I have used Garmin handhelds so I can't speak of how it stands up against a Garmin nav system. The Kenwood uses a Garmin system, you may want to check into it. I have a 30 gig IPOD video and the videos on it play through my D3. Right now there is a $200 rebate on the D3. At Crutchfield you can get a D3 with the Blue Tooth module and IPOD connector for $799 after rebate. I just installed mine last week and so far I like it. For the price, it is hard to beat for all that it can do. XM or Sirius, IPOD, Bluetooth, back up camera, DVD. There is also a by-pass for the D3 that allows you to watch DVDs on the go. Another route you may consider. Get a DVD in dash system that does everything but GPS and navigation. A nice one can be had for less that $500 since you already have the Garmin.

If you already have the portable nav then you wouldn't worry about the accuracy of the D3's nav.

You'll get a lot more than nav if you upgrade, not to mention better sound quality and more functionality.

I bought the D3 and was extremely disappointed with the mapping software on it. I purchased a Kenwood 7100 and love the mapping of it. If you don't mind using your current GPS, pioneer is going to be releasing a really nice DVD non navigation unit in March. Check out their website for that.

Had the D3 installed today, not a great install job, they forgot to hook up orange wire so my display will dim. Oh well, gotta get back there and do the "parking brake fix" so I guess I'll hook that up too.

I'm used to a Garmin so the maps are pretty but do they tell you what exit is coming up next?

I'll play with it for a couple of days, see how I like it.
