Hi all. I am looking for pictures on installed CB's in your cabs. Especially in the center console. Anyone of the vendors have a mod for the current inserts?

Thanks for all the help.

Thanks TopHog.

That is pretty much how I was looking to install. Did you take the center console completely out, or did you just pop out the pocket? I also like the external speaker you added.

I just took the "insert" out of the console and used a dremel tool to cut the hell out of it :) There is a rise or something back inside the console area you will have to grind down or cut out to make a full size CB fit ...IIRC it's a plastic hump or something that was used for trucks with the cassette deck.

My CB fits real tight ...it's not bolted in/fastened or anything ...just pushed into the insert ...but it's not going anywhere, doesn't rattle, etc.. With the CB speaker being inside the insert/dash area I thought an external speaker was a must-have, although I didn't try it with no external speaker. I can't take credit for the install ...as I copied what HD-Nate did ....

I just installed my new cb where TOPHOG did. I had to cut the back of the black plastic insert off. I cut it 3 1/4 inches from the back face and the radio is tight. That pocket tapers from the sides and the top and it is to small to put my radio all the way in. I used a Cobra with the 10 weather channels and it is smaller than some radios. I had a Uniden Pro 610 before and it is much smaller than the pocket. On it I had to cut the back out to get the wires and antenna cable through it. I DIDNOT have to grind the place off that TOPHOG did but it was close. My radio protrudes about 1/2 inch from the slot face.

I like my Galaxy but it's big ...and I think it's the smallest of the Galaxy models. My CB sticks out quite a ways and it's in as far as it can go...and that was with grindiig the plastic hump off inside the console area. I also wish it had mic jack on the front-left side as the cord gets in the way at times. I need to mount a mic holder up on the side and get the mic out of the way. Been laying it in the smaller cubbie hole directly above CB but can't use it for much else when the mic is stashed there.

Glad to hear you got everything installed.

Here's ours. The Banks switch is mounted on the left side of the mount. We have the bench seat though.

MrsSpoolin - how do you like the radio there? do you hit your knee on it when you get in/out of the truck? I've got the bench seat also and have been having a hard time figuring out where to put my CB. I was also thinking about just screwing it right into the dash above where you have yours.

It doesn't really get in the way. I've hit my knee a few times, but that was right after it was put there. I'm so used to it now. We plan on getting a shelf to put it up top with the light switch plate we'll have. The cord is kinda wedged in between the A-post and the dash to keep it out of the way.

I'm only 5'5", so there weren't a whole lot of places to put it without blocking my vision when I drive. Spoolin Turbo does most of the driving, but I do a little.

Thanks for the response, and I agree a shelf sounds like a good idea too.

I use a Cobra 75WX. It is a a handheld unit with everything in the handset. The coax and control cable connect to a small box. I have the unit mounted inside the arm rest/console. The handset can also be stored inside the arm rest. Completely out of sight.

The radio is a good performer and has WX Channels programmed..

I had the 40-20-40 in my 3500 so this is how I mounted my Uniden PC66. Ignore the junk on the floor. Its a work (plow) truck.

In my old 2500HD and current truck, this is the current radio and is hung on a Pro-Fit bracket.

I haven't put one in my 05 yet, but I did put one in my dad's 02. I mounted it to the side of the console on the drivers side. Kinda up at an angle to the driver, that way all of my wires are run under the console. The hardest part was getting the coax in it, I run it down the back of the cab and under the truck then drilled a hole in the floor in the rear of the cab and sent the coax under the carpet and under the console. I've also got a power inverter mounted in the rear under the seat for my dad. He has had open heart surgery and I didn't want him to have to manually change a tire out on the side of the road so I put in a 1500 watt power inverter and he carrys an extension cord and the electric impact around with him.

That's where we have the scanner located. That does remind me, I need to clear out the truck. We've been home for 2 weeks and I've onlt take the dogs bed out.:o

Pics of the console installed CB are here (http://www.picturetrail.com/txdoc)
And, the custom antennna mount thought up and designed by SoMnDuramax that looks OEM. Scanner is piggybacked on the AM/FM antenna.

TxDoc - Do you have any more pix of the antenna? I tried to find user SoMnDuramax without luck. Can you point me in the rioght direction?

That looks like a great way to mount.
Thanks.

This is a driver side bracket that Matt (SoMnDmax from the Diesel Page) designed. I believe Eric sells them on his web site. Jermck is the original builder of the bracket. He still builds and sells the bracket. You can find his info in this thread.

I can email you the original drawings with measurements and about 10 more pics of the original. Shoot me an email. I will try to find your email, in the meantime.

what are you guys doing for antenna mounts?

Hole drilled in the topper with ball mounts for now. Once the rack is built, they will be mounted up there.

The mount that SoMnDuramax designed, drew and shared with others is nice as it does not require drilling. It uses two existing hood mount bolts to fasten it in place. Take a look thru the pics, they are pretty self-explanatory. Would be theives would not know how it attaches and that it is not an OEM antenna.

I just finished installing my CB in the truck a couple of weeks ago. Had a small problem wiring it at first so we ripped it all out and started from scratch. This radio is putting out 75 watts barefoot. The RFI was interfering with the EGT readings on the Attitude. So we wired it straight to the battery via relay for ignition activation and ran the coax under the console to the back of the truck with the good coax. No problems anymore.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Had to remove some of the subwoofer in the console to get it to fit nicely but the results are well worth it. I also installed the small Uniden speaker in the small access space that in earlier models housed the ashtray. It fit perfectly. I am real happy with it now. Works great!!
