: ??'s on Boost/Egt's
95-6.5 01-13-2005, 12:05 AM well i have my new chip waiting to be installed. All i am waiting for is for my boost/egt guages to come in from JK.
95-L65 c2500 auto..
What kind of boost levels should i see.How much boost is to much?
What kind of EGT levels should i see and what are to much?
pyro is post turbo setup with the clamp on type probe.
I dont really haul anything except for my boat in the summer,my four wheelers, dirtbikes, three wheelers all on one trailer.I live in cent texas so its pretty flat.
i just want to make sure to know when to back off the throttle before something bad happens.
D.Camilleri 01-13-2005, 12:53 AM I am not sure how much fuel your new chip will add but I can show you some very unhappy pistons from a post turbo pyro. 6.5. PLEASE move your pyro pre-turbo and save your engine. Limit your egt's to 1200 max pre-turbo for short durations, 1050 continious and 15 psi boost with stock compression. Consider an intercooler.
steiner43511 01-13-2005, 08:58 AM i got mine post turbo and i rarely ever get past 600F, and thats pullin a small trailer
quantum mechanic 01-13-2005, 09:53 AM That 600*F might correspond to 800*F or more pre turbine.
Firefighter 01-13-2005, 11:28 AM On both of my 6.5's I've run the pyro post turbo without a problem and I do pull some heavy loads (9600#'s) in the mountains. The key here is to make sure you compensate for the distance with having a lower maximum temp. 1250 deg is the magic number pre turbo where it is hottest, and a safe margin for a probe within 6" post turbo is to subtract 300 deg. I personally use a guideline of 900 deg max post turbo just to be on the safe side and have never had an issue. Between both trucks I have over 150,000 miles logged using this guideline without a problem. Both trucks had the intake mods done, 3.5" straight pipe, mandrel bent down pipe, Auto Meter Phantom Gauges in Pillar pod, one had a BD Chip and the other has the Turbo Technologies computer reflash and an intercooler.
quantum mechanic 01-13-2005, 11:47 AM Where are turbo technologies out of?
Firefighter 01-13-2005, 04:15 PM In Washington. http://www.turbotechnologyinc.com/
95-6.5 01-13-2005, 05:03 PM Kennedy sells two types of guages, one is pre turbo the other is post turbo.
they are ,marked acordingly for ex.
Here is the pre turbo gauge

Here is the post turbo gauge.
http://img86.exs.cx/img86/2672/postturbo5xn.gif
As you see they are marked about 250 degrees off to comensate for the different locations.
Firefighter 01-13-2005, 05:25 PM Yup, I just use 900 to be safe. You never know if the guage is 100% accurate. I'd rather not find out the hard way!
steiner43511 01-13-2005, 08:53 PM i got the one in the second picture and i have never been anywhere close to the yellow.

id only run 15 w/ an intercooler w/ stock comp pistons, otherwise i wouldnt go over 12psi.

First of all, my pyro is preturbo.
I was wondering if these temps were sustained or peak--ie you had your foot in it for a few seconds and the temp crests there? I have a Celsius guage (It saved me 60 bucks. Goes to 900*C I did a conversion and covers 1650*F so basically a stickers difference on the gauge) anyway, I normally operate right at 350*C or 662*F. Under any load (acceleration) I can hit 500*C like a bad habbit and have to watch myself to keep it below 600*C. I'm not really putting my foot into it.
Is this normal? What kind of temps do other people see? Should I be concerned about getting my DP and Exhaust done ASAP?
guybb3 08-11-2006, 05:19 AM Thanks TD. Should I be concerned about getting my DP and Exhaust done ASAP?
Should be done anyway IMO.
bow-tie-guy 08-12-2006, 12:29 AM Yeah but what kind of other sustained and peak temps do other people see on a normal or regualr basis? I'm curious what temps other trucks (modded or not) see. Am just trying to see if my temps are irregular. TIA.
dieselboy28 08-12-2006, 12:46 AM Thanks TD.

before i got my intercooler in i could spike 1200 pretty easily. it would take a little bit longer with no trailer but with a trailer it would hit 1100 easily. if i hit a small hill it would try to climb real fast. hard to keep it under 1100 up a hill. as far as normal driving mine was about the same as yours. these temps were with every thing in my sig except the intercooler and my pyro is pre-turbo.
bow-tie-guy 08-12-2006, 01:08 AM Thanks
chrisk1500 08-12-2006, 11:54 AM Without any mods I could hit 1200 if I kept the pedal to the floor....not good.
With the 10K pot I can barely hit 1000 if I keep the pedal to the floor....it cruises around 550 - 600 and hits 900 when I pass on the highway.....this is with the stock exhaust still (no CAT)....

I feel your pain!..I keep telling myself..."finish the degrees and then you can play with your truck"....lol...
marktara 08-13-2006, 10:43 PM I take it this must be after turbo gauage then?

Yeah!! But it never works does it?:D I've got 2 years left and just can't take having a non-moded daily driver. The exhaust should finish my mods for the year. Although my mom wants to know what I want for Christmas.

I think so. The yellow or caution comes in at the same place but the red line on yours looks delayed a bit.
