I have 10K miles now. The truck costs $115 more a month than the 1/2 ton before. I'm getting 20% better mileage, can tow twice as much, and it should last twice as long with reg. maintainance. ):h):h):hWhat do you think?

3 miles on the 05 3500drw, 124 mile on the 05 2500hd, 19,200 on the 03 2500hd, 55k on the 02 2500 hd and 56k 0n the 01 in my sig. Would never go back to a gas tow rig, or even as my daily driver. The 03 runs 18-20 mpg, my 98 Z71 only got 15-16 and wasn't near the truck. Love that d-max power!

215k before first injector prob. then two more injector failures ,finally ending with a blown engine at 282k because of fuel in oil over the 3 injector failures causing the oil pressure to fall each failure & ate the bearings.

255,000 on the 01 and 18,000 on the 04.5. Depends on how your going to use it to make them worth the extra money.

I have had several gassers that lasted me 300,000K. I love the power, have few problems. But you should know the fuel cost more, maint is more expensive, you need additives for the fuel, fuel filters every 15K, trans filters every 25K. They hold 10 to 11 quarts of oil, but only change every 10,000.

Gassers are about $4,700 cheaper and cheaper to maintain, your fuel mileage will not be as good.

The main question is what are you going to use it for.

Daily driver, light towing, and misc hauling duties-- go Gas.
Heavy hauling, heavy towing, keeping it for 300,000 plus- GO DIESEL:ro)

11000 miles since Nov. 3rd 2004. Best mpg 19.3, worst is 11.9 pulling about 6000 pounds for 12 hours with a nasty head wind. Normal daily mixed driving gets about 18. Still getting broken in.

Edited the miles, went to Ohio overnight.

I'VE GOT 19800 ON MINE SINCE AUG 04. LOVE THE TRUCK--KEEPING UP WITH MY SON CAUSED ME TO BUY THE TRUCK (HE HAS FXXD DIESEL).

MY MILEAGE KINDA DISAPPOINTS ME THOUGH, 13-16 MPG OVERALL. (YES I KNOW IT'S A 7400# VEHICLE)

BUT IT RARELY DOWNSHIFTS NO MATTER WHAT THE TERRAIN IS LIKE, PULLS MY TRAILERS (RV, HORSE, CARGO, AND FLATBED LOADED) WITH EASE. OTHER THAN THE DRONE (HUM) OF THE ENGINE, IT'S REALLY QUIET AND VERY COMFORTABLE TO RIDE IN.

IT'S NOTHING LIKE I THOUGHT A 3/4 TON DIESEL WOULD BE!! SOME OF THE THINGS I'VE READ ON THESE THREADS FLOORS ME--- 1/4 MILE TIMES FOR A DIESEL TRUCK---SMOKING TIRES---POWER MODS---PASSING CARS GOING UP HILL PULLING 12000#--- UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I HAVE HAD FXXD AND GM 1/2 TON GAS TRUCKS AND THEY SEEMED TO "WEAR OUT" AFTER 100k-150k. SEATS BROKE, SUSPENSION PROBLEMS, GAS GAUGE/ FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS, ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, AND I COULDN'T GET ANY TRADE IN VALUE FOR THEM. I'M HOPING THESE 3/4 TON DIESELS WILL HOLD UP A LITTLE LONGER! THEY SEEM TO BE BUILT STRONGER THAN A 1/2 TON--THE FRAME IS BIGGER/ THICKER, SUSPENSION PARTS ARE FORGED METAL NOT STAMPED, BIGGER BRAKES/ TIRES, HEAVY DUTY ENGINE/ TRANSMISSION, ETC.

I DIDN'T THINK THE 3/4 TON VEHICLES WERE REALLY THAT MUCH MORE MONEY FOR WHAT YOU WERE GETTING, AND IF I CAN GET MORE MONEY WHEN I TRADE, I'M ACTUALLY SAVING MONEY.

I DUNNO, MAYBE I'M ALL WET! IT WOULD SURE BE NICE IF SOME OF THE "HEAVY HITTERS" WOULD GIVE THEIR OPINIONS!?!?

THANKS,
RONDE

i have 59.4K on mine since i purchased it on 3/24/04. no problems, that wasn't caused by me (lower ball joint issue due to hitting a hole hard on a dirt road). i believe the savings in fuel and maintenance is best savings, next to durability. lots of highway driving for me.

95,849 on my '01
Overall average mpg 17.5 (high 20.9, low 12.2 - pulling 4k box trailer in windy mts)
One belt tensioner, three bulbs and 6 tires - That's it!
Runs like a scalded dog and pulls like a gorilla - best truck I've ever owned!

I only have 1600 miles on my 05. I have seen 16.0 so far on one tank. I don't drive it much as I still have my 02 Avalanche with the 8.1 and I ride my bicycle to work most of the time, only 8/10's of a mile. Probably do more harm than good driving either vehicle to work, such a short trip.
