: To all who have paid for cluster repairs...
Max Payne 01-12-2005, 03:03 PM To all who have paid for cluster repairs... I just found out today that an IPC (instument panel cluster) has emissions equipment warranty coverage, 5yr 100k. Kind of makes sense too, if the cluster doesn't work, how many miles are on the engine? If you paid because you were out of the 3/36, check on this...
duramaxdiesel 01-12-2005, 05:04 PM Thanks for the tip.
Gerilyn 01-12-2005, 06:43 PM thanks for that info
Max Power 01-12-2005, 06:47 PM If everyond knew this there would be a lot of dealers refunding money! I know of someone who had their instrument cluster in a sunfire replace 4 times, twice under 36,000 mile warranty and twice out of their own pocket.
Griswald 01-12-2005, 07:44 PM I just had an instrument light go out in the speedo. From 60-120 is dark. Are these the same type of bulbs that they use to use? Anybody had to replace any?
dmaxalliTech 01-12-2005, 10:44 PM Max, are they covering all types of cluster repairs or?.....
Max Payne 01-13-2005, 10:00 AM The particular instance I was involved with was an 03 with 39k, that began to run 40mph sitting still. I asked our service manager if we could warranty it, since he is a good customer of mine. Service Mgr. came back and sait that the cluster was covered as "emissions equipment" (He was recently promoted to Service Mgr. from warranty administrator, so he is pretty fresh with policys and procedures.) I asked him what about all the other people that we boned for cluster repair, he said "looks like they deserve a reimbursement check". I wouldn't be able to say if it would cover things such as illumination issues, but this particular issue was covered...Max, are they covering all types of cluster repairs or?.....
Max Power 01-13-2005, 10:14 AM It's pretty easy to make an instrument cluster with no lights to stick at 40mph sitting still ;)
1st Chev Diesel 01-14-2005, 10:36 AM dmaxalliTech you posted in the thread called "Warranty Question" parts of GM's New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Included in that post was this:
"Some of these components may also be covered by the Emission Warranty with no deductible. See the "Emission Warranty Parts List" under Emission Control Systems Warranty for details."
Can you post the list of equipment that is cover by the Emission Warranty. I would like to be armed with all the information I can get before I approach my dealer re cluster replacement. Thanks.
dmaxalliTech 01-14-2005, 08:55 PM I would have to look it up as I dont frequent the P and P manual. I still cant get a straight answer out of anybody regarding the cluster around here though.
1st Chev Diesel 01-18-2005, 04:53 PM Saw my local dealer yesterday. He told me that instrument clusters are not covered under the Emissions Equipment Warranty. He showed me a list of equipment covered under Emissions in the warranty book each of us have in our truck glove box.
Anybody got iron clad information that would put a smile back on my face?
1st Chev Diesel 01-25-2005, 09:37 PM Thanks to GMCSID for posting a list of items covered under Emissions Warranty. Go to post #18 at this link:

Do not see Instrument Panel Cluster on the list.

Max Power 01-25-2005, 10:34 PM If you MIL lamp doesn't work that is covered under the emissions warranty.
1st Chev Diesel 01-26-2005, 07:23 PM Max Power what is an MIL lamp?
What went on mine is the trip odometer, gear selector window.

Max Payne 01-26-2005, 07:34 PM If it doesn't show the mileage, they should warranty it too. How else are they gonna know how many miles you have on the engine warranty?
aprr454 01-26-2005, 07:52 PM I'm getting my 4th cluster tomorrow. Orginal, bad speedo. 1st repalcement, hourmeter was way off, 2nd replacement was an 05' cluster with bad oil pressure gauge, O/D cutoff light not working, can't reset "change engine oil" message. 3rd replacement, 05' cluster with same problems as the 2nd replacement. Turns out that the 05' is not compatible with an 03' truck. So tomorrow I'm finaly getting an 03' cluster, hope this one works.
02B12S 01-26-2005, 08:16 PM 17K on my 04.5, speedo is on 80mph sitting still.. arg.. another thing to get fixed..
Big Angry 01-26-2005, 09:13 PM Tomorrow is the one month anniversary of my cluster getting ordered.....
Max Payne 01-26-2005, 09:17 PM Happy Anniversary):h Tomorrow is the one month anniversary of my cluster getting ordered.....
Big Angry 01-26-2005, 09:22 PM Happy Anniversary):h
Thanks. At this rate, my warranty will be over before the damn thing shows up...only 11k left, and I have only had it 10 months.... Censored  Censored
02B12S 01-27-2005, 11:10 AM Ok.. my speedo died last night (earlier post).. Went to my dealer this morning to have them look at it. They pulled the cluster and Fedx'd it to a GM Repair facility. It left while I was there. I was told they will either repair/replace the speedo, or Clone the data onto a new cluster and send it back. Was told it takes about 5 days.
To top it off, They gave me a 2005 Buick La Saber to drive (Free) till I get the truck back. They offered a pickup but I opted for the car..
So far I'm happy with my dealers service.
mrmagu 02-01-2005, 02:09 PM Took my wife's Denali in with locked speedometer, 39K miles. Service rep said yes its broken, (where do they get these guys) and they would order new. Asked about warranty and was told no, challenged them under the "emissions" warranty, rep went into conference with service manager and returned to tell me NOT covered but in the interest of customer good will, they will replace free. Don't know if it was covered and they were saving face, or not covered and really did for customer good will. Either way, my cost is $00.00.
Max Power 02-01-2005, 02:18 PM I really doubt the dealer is absorbing the cost. I pretty much guarantee one way or another GM is footing the bill.
02B12S 02-01-2005, 08:21 PM Continuing with my thread from 1-27-05. Got a call from the dealer today. Good news/Bad news sort of message..
The new cluster was received and installed, then discovered it was programed for the wrong truck. Was removed and sent back to GM.. Offered to get me a different rental if I wished.. (Truck or Car) . No Idea if I'll get it back this week..
mrmagu 02-01-2005, 10:15 PM continuing from this morning. Picked up Denali from dealer today still free, with large stamp "WARRANTY" across invoice..........
So GM picked up cost and dealer replaced under warranty whether emmisions or some other perhaps "hidden" one, I don't know, but seems to support Max Payne's original posting
