I recently bought new wheels and tires off a member here, they are 305/55/20 so i will have to crank the torsion bars up alot, so i was going upgrade the tie rod sleevs. So what do u guys recommend, sleeves or heavy duty tie rods, i was looking at cognito. I have seen some other ones that looked real good but they were around $500. Also, I am planning in the future to do my tranny any put my efi live into good use, so ill be doing some pretty good 4wd launches. So what would you guys reccomend?

depending on the $$$ you want to spend right off the bat... granted long term you might get better usage out of new tie rods as aposed to sleeves, but like me im gonna prolly opt to do the sleeves for now, and when i do a lift and a bigger tires then upgrade to the tie rods, the other thing is your really not running that big of a tire so the steering isn't really having to work to hard to move those 305's. thats just my $.02

well if i do go with heavy duty tie rods it will be fabtech or cognito, which is around 100 bucks more. So would new heavy duty tie rods be better then keeping the stock ones and putting sleeves on it? Or would i be better getting sleeves now, and waiting for the ones that cost 500 bucks. I cant think of the names right now, i have seen them on other post

The fabtechs dont work on a truck thats not lifted, they rub, there is a post on here somewhere about that, even if you call and ask fabtech they will tell you they are for a lifted truck, just wanted to give you a heads up

not lifted and no rub here with the fabtechs....what do they rub? actually plenty of clearance after looking again...hmm

on a positive note my '05 with 100k miles drives like new with new tie rods and ISS

I got the Cognito HD tie rods with the heim joints, they are super stout compared to stock. I would just spend a few extra bucks and get new tie rods.

huh? well wasnt trying to put fabtech down, I just remember a guy on here badmouthing fabtech in a thread about them on his stock height truck, dont want to say what was rubbing though since im not positive. Maybe he will chime in on this thread, but probably not and i'll just look like an idiot:banghead:

HD tie rods... you can easily spend more than $215 for a set of OEM inner/outter tie rods even WITHOUT the sleeves; even the stainless sleeves can be a bitch to take off old rusty tie rods when it comes time for replacement...

I have the fabtech tierods...the inner boots rub on the sway bar causing them to tear. fabtech told me they are for lifted trucks only, so i would go another route. I also need to find a tierod that will work without rubbing, and without a lift. let me know what you come up with.

yep.. Both boots on mine were torn in a couple of months. Was leaning towards the cognito hd's but worried they'll do the same thing.

if anybody knows of a setup that will work, let me know. mine have been torn for awhile now, and im sure there is alot of salt/sand mix in there from the winters:mad:. I really dont want the stock ones with sleeves, I want something more heavy duty. plus i already wrecked mine from a launch, and they are already in the garbage.

Here's the tie rods from Cognito that you would want. The heim joint tierods are exposed and wouldn't be good with salted roads.http://cognitomotorsports.com/store/media/images/OE_TIEROD_FOR_WEB_LARGE.jpg

These are the ones I was interested in. I may get them once I find the right truck too buy.

the only thing i worry about is the inner boot rubbing through again. they look just like the fabtech ones. does anybody have these on a truck with just the torsion bars turned?

I'd also like to add these, but don't really plan on a lift (as of right now). I like how the truck is with the T-Bars cranked up and as long as these will work with a non-lifted truck (just raised w/ t-bars). Gotta be able to do those 4WD lauches!!

I just put them on. I've got my t-bars turned almost all the way plus some (small, ~1") shock spacers and I've got no problems with the tie-rod boots rubbing.
