I am new to this forum, and I am having a problem with a customers '02 D-max. This is the first max I have had to deal with. The problem is, the truck was having a hard time starting cold, the customer was using Either( against my advise) to start it and after that it would run and restart the rest of the day. Temp was around 30-40F in Arkansas. The problem got worst to where the truck had to be started with Either even when hot:eek:, and now the truck died and I have it at the shop with a no-start. With my limited experience with these engines, I told him it could be many different possibilities. He said the injectors had been changed under warranty and he wanted the injector pump changed, so I changed it and it still wont start. A few techs I talked to said an injector might be stuck open and leaking the fuel back to the tank. It has codes P0089, P1093,P1094 and a few others that might be associated with them screwing with it.
I don't want to waste more of the customers money, even though it was his idea to spend the money on the injector pump, I even offered to take it to a repair shop that had more experience with these engines.
Does this sound like a bad injector or bad Fuel pressure regulator?

By no means am I an expert but the first thing I'd do is toss the ether. Then change the fuel filter and prime it up and see if you notice any difference.
Does your customer use a programmer/module? Any fuel additives?
P0089 - fuel pressure regulator performance
P1093 - low fuel rail pressure...may need a lift pump if it's mod'd up
P1094 - fuel rail pressure low during idle or decel fuel cut-off (DFCO).
Good luck.

yeah, it could be the FPR...but if you are not experienced...I think he may be chasing good money after bad. That is not knock on your skills...but these rigs are better served by the experienced.

Try Changing The Black Plastic Bleeder On The Fuel Filter Housing, It Has A Screwdriver Slot And If You Use A Screwdriver You Can Put A Hair Line Crack In It, It Only Cost A Couple Dollars, That Fixed My Brothers, At Least 10 Dealers Tried To Diagnose And Did Not Find It. If That Doesnt Do It You Need To Check The Pump Pressure With A Tec Ii Machine, And Run The Pressure Up And See If It Will Go Like To 23k.

If the rig won't start how are you going to spool up the pressure above 14.7 psi?

Change the filter- then pressurize the the fuel tank to 5 psi-- no more! When the sysyem is bleed of all air-- with the tank still pressurized - crank it-- Just trying to help!:D

I'd definitely change the fuel filter first, it can cause a lot of problems. Would be a cheap fix.

I found the problem. You'll never guess, the injectors. I borrowed a set of block off caps from the dealer and capped the line that goes to the right side fuel rail and the truck started. Now the dealer is sending me all the parts needed to change all 8 injectors under warranty. They told me I could do it since I already had half the stuff off changing the CP3. What a way to jump into my first Dmax.
