OK, I am completely new to this. I have been thinking about getting an older Suburban to tow a 19' Ranger Bassboat with and general camping type use. I found a 1990 Suburban that has a Banks Turbo'd 6.5 in it. Suburban is in greta shape but motor I fear is toast. Guy seems honest enough and says the following:
1. Suburbnan has 140,000 total miles and 6.5 was installed 70,000 ago.
2. Motor was running fine and then stalled on free way. No bang just a loud squeal sound.
3. Found out it was four qts of oil low when checked but no warning
4. Now engine turns over but sounds like something bad, as it squeals
5. Metal shavings in oil pan

Rest of truck is very good. Very clean,Alcoa rims, nice tires great paint. Winch, Asking 2,000.00

Questions:
1. Probable reasons/damage
2. Approx costs to have fixed
3. Is this a good year Suburban

Get a newer one. Offer him $200 for the burban. The engine's toast but turbo and exhaust/intake is worth a hundred and the burban's worth a hundred.

I wouldn't pay over 500.00 for it and only if I had another motor on hand to put in it.

I would take the suburban for $ 200, in a minute. If anyone has one in Texas for close to that price please let me know. I have engines.
