I'm getting ready to install a secondary fuel/water separator on my 4500. Just wanted to know if anybody has done it and see what set up you have. I purchased one that's a Racor set up but the bracket and rock shield are for an LT. I'm going to make some mods. to it, but it will work. Just wanted to see if I was on the right track and if something out there was better.

I'm running the Nictane Cat set up on the frame rail pre OE for over a year. That Racor is a popular one and there was rumor that it was GM approved or something of that nature.
Your on the right track

I have the GM literature suggesting it be installed (at customers expen$e mind you) for trucks like mine that fallinto the 'severe service' maintainance schedule. Funny thing was the dealer said it was to maintain warranty on the injectors. 2 months later I mentioned to my dealer if GM felt like that it should be installed at their cost... not mine. On my next oilchange they (GM) dropped the issue (more people felt like me?... GM should do it?) and then We get a letter from GM on extending the injector warranty???? WTF???
BAIT AND SWITCH?
BTW what are the differences between the stock injectors and 'warranted' ones?
Flow rates anyone?
Just shooting in the dark, but it smells fishy to me. IMO 2 filters should be STANDARD on the HPCR trucks. an in tank lift pump to a 20 micron filter, then on to the stock location a 2 micron absolute filter.
But then again... what do i know):h

I was told the same thing at the dealer about the Racor filter add on. Shop boss said if I get it he'd put it on. My dime. Then he tried to find a way to mount it. Took truck home. Waiting for RAIN, ICE, Mud and wife's crap to stop, wait, did I say that? The filter and mounting bracket that I have will place the filter high on the rail. Shouldn't it be in line with the rest of the lines there on the rail?

I helped someone install a "official" GM kit on their DMAX, it was std RACOR kit available anywhere, but he purchased it from GM just in case there was any warranty issue, since it was bought via GM parts dept one could assume GM would not balk at it's installation and it voiding any warranty on injectors.

TD, I might have to do some alter's to the bracket, but it will work. Got a switch that ties in to the 80 gallon on top. Plan to post pic's and send the pattern to Greg at Lub. Specl. if he wants to use it. His kit I believe is for an Lt. The one I will make will be for the 4500's.
Big Mack, saw the pic's of your ride. Sweet! Like to know were you mounted the probe for the pyro. TD, sorry if the above doesn't make sense. Still licking wounds from initiation and opening my big mouth. Wine works great!

Oh, sorry, shop boss said if I install the filter, he'd ok it for GM. I got lucky to have a shop boss at a GM Dealer.
