I just got a new 05 2500 Ext cab 4x4 D/A with about 600 miles on it. I love this truck! :D :D :D But I have a question, how many miles should I put on to break it in before I start towing with it. Mind you I'm not pulling all that much weight. (at least not for this truck) I'm moving soon and need to pull a flat bed trailer with my Jeep (XJ) on it and then pull my 21' aluminum boat with it on a later trip. The boat I pulled with my Jeep so it's not that heavy for this truck. Was for the Jeep though. lol

You can start lite towing most anytime after 500 miles. What you need to watch is the differential temperature. The gears will continue to lap themselves (wear to a perfect fit) as you drive. Try to keep the loads light and driving times short at first and give the oil time to cool. After 500 towing miles, change the differential oil and you are good to go.

The only guy to respond is a Buckeye! Kind of tough for a Michigan guy to take advise from a Buckeye. -:t Just kidding. :D I lived in Columbus for 3 years and took nothing but flak for my Blue license plate. Used to take it off during the week leading up to the Michigan/Ohio State game.

OK, Here from California....Might argue the Trojan thing with me......):h . But his post is right on mark. Just make sure you change the fluid after 500 mi towing. then tow away. Now I will say. I did not tow light, I dropped on a 11K lb deal and off I went...

I was born and raised in Michigan. So, it's my birth right to harrass every Buckeye I come across. Besides after living there for 3 years I figure my harrassment bank account is full and it's time to spend a little. :)

Other than the Michigan/Ohio State game I'm not much of a football fan. Too busy scaring the hell out of the ducks on Saturday mornings in the fall. Besides Buckeye's ain't all bad, one married my sister! Poor bastard. :rolleyes:

After the first 500, I towed my TT to work every day until I had another 500 towing. Then changed the rear end fluid (and cover).
