OK i am pretty new here so i guess a HI ya is in order so HI YA. But now to my hole reason for this post. I am a little new to the diesel tuning thing have had hpt for about a year now went to school learned all about tuning gas engines dont know a hole lot about diesel. What i do know is what i have been reading here and it seem to me that i have seen a few people with a programer like edge or bully dog just for example and hpt on there trucks. Now I understand that this is to stack the two improve on or add to the programer that they have well I got the chance to try this out on my friends 05 Dmax with the triple dog programer but when I did the read on him PCM all i got was his stock tune. Now I kinda figured that this would happen my question is if I try and reflash the pcm with hpt will it change it to stock with just the mods i do or will it just stack on top. I guess what i am asking is for the guys that have does this i need to know what you seeing with your hpt software. Cuz i am kinda confused:o:

If I understand correctly, the bullydog programmer should flash a new program to the PCM. With HPT, when you scan the truck it should pick up what the bullydog programmer has flashed to the PCM. However, if you returned the truck to stock with the Bullydog the HPT will pick up what is in the PCM. IE the stock program. Hope this helps!

Well ok that kinda helps but my problem is when i scaned to pcm it wasnt stock it had the triple dog on it in exterem. Now i am not tring to steel the tune off the truck to be honest i dont care about that this is my friends truck and he wants it to smoke not sure way but hey its his fuel bill not ming. Want to know why when i scan the truck with the programer on I dont see the changes that where made by it when compared to stock.

You should now be seeing the bulley tune then. I would reload the bulley tune & then try to rescan it. Unless they lock their tunes... You should scan the truck while in stock & then scan the truck with the bulley dog in place. You should be able to use the compare feature in hptunes to see what was changed. This should be totally legal. If he bought the programmer & you are using this on his truck only, there should be no problems.

Crashnburn thankx for the input i am going to try it again tonight maybe and see what happens I think my problem may be that i am using a stock tune out of the libray to compare thats the only thing i can think of like i said i am just tring to make his truck puff out a little more smoke and not mess up his bully dog programer thats the only reason i even care about seeing whats changed is i dont want to flash in my smoke tune and him lose his bully dog stuff.

Help me out here. I have not used Bulley. Is it a programmer & a monitor system or is it like ppe you load it & then remove it. I am thinking that you load the tune with the bulley & then you use hptuners to "scan" & then read the tune. You should have it then to compare. Let us know.

Ok the one I am dealing with is the bully dog triple dog and once loaded you can leave the programer box pluged in for a shift on the fly programing or load what you want and unplug it OR you can get the out look motior that is pluged in all the time and gives you shift on the fly plus a few monitors. Now i have tried to scan the computer with no luck it does not show me any diffrents in the tune from stock so I think there is a lock of some type on there or something i am missing i am not sure. I am going to get on the hpt fourms and see what they think.

Yeah it is a little far but it was a good idea. I check up with the guys on HPT forum they seem to think as long as I flash with hpt first then hit it with the bully dog I should be good so I guess I will try and see this week end.

I was working on this same problem on my truck months ago. what i wanted to do was read the bd tune with my hpt, when you read it with hpt it is still stock even though the bd is in there.
From what i have found the new vcm's are alot more than what we see with hpt. hpt only works with a small part of the vcm & bd must be using another part of the vcm we can't access with hpt.

What I did was flash my truck with the bd then read it with hpt, even though it looked the same as my stock tune I saved it as my reference point to go back to before I take the bd out if I ever do. My goal was not to mess with the bd tune because the crazy larry tune is more than enough power for my stock trany. what I needed was tire size adjust, turn off egr & I was getting an overboost code when i added the cold air kit, i fixed this problem by raising the map limits in engine diag.these changes worked out great for me

Hope this helps & good luck, when i was messing with mine I couldn't get any help. If you have any luck with performance changes let me know and I will let you know if i find out any thing else

Ok Just to let every one in on whats been going on I did get a chance to use hpt with a programer but it wasnt the bully dog. a Diffrent person had me do a tune on there truck with hpt on top of there Edge it worked pretty good not sure what the diffrents was but you could feel it. and it seemd to have no effect on the edge at all.

That is because the edge is tuner box & not a programmer. You load you hptuner tune & then the edge add on top of that.
