I just got my new-to-me dmax. I changed the tranny filter and fluid and I did not see any magnet. The tranny fliud was very clean so it had been changed recently so I am assuming the magnet was never replaced then. How to I go about getting a new magnet and were does it go?

The magnet is the small "donut-disk" on the tranny filter you just tossed.

Get a new one from most any vendor including MA, (http://www.merchant-automotive.com/allisonspinonfiltermagnet.aspx) It's $4.

It looks like a big black washer stuck to the top of your filter when you take it off around the center of threads of the filter.

it pretty much centers itself on the top of the filter there is another one in the transmission like most stuck on the bottom of the pan so you still the the ability to keep the filings under control

I think if it was a critical piece they wouldn't be so easily thrown away. Unless you change your own filter I bet more than half of the dmax trucks out there have no magnet. I changed my filter over the weekend and I didn't have a magnet either, dealer didn't have the magnet in stock so I have a handful on order. At 2.75 doesn't hurt to have extra! The dealer I went to didn't know wtf I was talking about when I mentioned the magnet so here is a part number for the magnet 29535617
