Hey guys need help on this. On of the bearings siezed up on my truck today. I lost the serpentine belt, and then had now brakes:eek::eek:

Here is a picture of the bearing, None of the part stores can find anythiing on it. I jimmy rigged a pulley from a 350 chevy to take its place for the time until I can get this replaced.

Its 76 mm bearing if that helps.

My idler bearing started to make squeeling noise so took it to dealer and they oiled it which was really dumb as it took 3 weeks to get noisey again and then they had to replace it as it was really ground up . Its good to replace it if making noise so it dont fail and mess up the belt also brake failure is not a good thing . Rich

Doh!, Did not realize merchant had that on his website. Looks like he redid his website since the last time I had to order stuff.

What did it sound like before it went out? Mine is starting to squeak on start up, for a few minutes but goes away. Is that it?

Got mine at the dealer , 15 and change.

Sparky , sounds like a bearing whine from about 1200RPM on up , as was said , when it goes it will take the belt with it and you lose PS and PB.

I first noticed the squeeling about 2 weeks ago, I was putting it off till I needed to change oil. All I had to do was take 10 minutes with a mechanics stethoscope and could have save the $75 for the belt.

Just go rob one off of one of Rick's trucks!

Which one was it, mine is doing the same thing, I replaced the belt a while ago, it quit, but now its back with avengence, and I could actualy smell the friction that was created. Haha, not good, but im nice and broke right now and really dont want to spend the money to replace them all, only replacing one would be more better, and I do still have the original belt too if she decides to melt off. (see im a stinker, one of does smart college fellers)

PS I just looked at them, and I love GM engineering cause both pulleys are side by side to be compared easily. One is nice and shiney, the other has black stipes. Reason of deduction says the zebra is my culprit. Yes, No, Maybe?

If the bearing is making any noise that means failure is around the corner . Mine made the noise on cold start that went away after a short run . A proper bearing will not make any noise so dont let the dealer oil it as that wont work cause you cant replace worn or rusted metal with liquid [ oil ] . Take the tension off the idler and feel the bearing for play or any lumpy feeling when you rotate it . Rich

Pull the belt and see which one has play...You will need another belt anyway. I think it is the zebra.

That's probably the belt , the idlers squeal hot and cold with the RPM.

Are there two idler pulleys? Mine seem to squeling all the time. Squart a little WD-40 7 they quiet down. What is the G.M. part # ? Should I replace the belt first and see if the noise goes away.
thanks,
Dave

Mine just went out 2 weeks ago while cruising down the road. Started smelling burning rubber, started pulling in my neighborhood and the belt snapped. Lost power everything. Looked under the hood and started checking all of the pulleys and alt. and water pump, etc. Well it was the bottom pulley, seized up. The other pulley is nasty looking too, but the dealer only had one at the time. $16.00 and a $35 gatorback belt and i was running again. I would advise you to change both pulleys while you have it apart.

What if you had a ton of fuel leaking out of your crank case from injector failure....would the diesel tear up the pulley's?
Just had the serpentine belt replaced a few months ago.

It could not possibly be good for it.
