hi guys I am new to the forum but not diesels.

i have been looking at more upgrades :Dand something that i ran across nade me wonder.:rolleyes:

some of the programers raise your rpm limiter to in the 4500 ish range
that seems crazy :eek:to me is that realy safe??
4000+ on a diesel!!:eek:

you should be fine at 4500rpm's in your duramax....It sounds even better at 4850 :D

Well the factory redline is 4500 in tow haul with gradebraking. Mine sounds good at 4800 though too LOL.

The valve-train becomes the issue at anything over 4000+. Lots of RPM and big boost on stock valve springs really causes problems. If you're looking to turn some serious RPMs, I'm pretty sure Merchant Automotive and SoCal Diesel have spring and rev kits to cure the floating valve syndrome.

thanks for all of the input i would not say that i am planning to run that kind of RPM but nice to know it is there if i need it (just in case i need a little longer between shifts when spanking some kid with daddys mustang)

Ya, we pulled the sled last year and had no problems underload getting 44XX. It will rev on the street past 5k. :eek:
