I drove one........

$65K was way too much for the TDI............ ..........since the regular 6 cylinders can be had for $35K and the V8's for the low $40K's......I can buy a ton of gasoline a lot cheaper than diesel fuel will cost and it just ain't worth it when diesel is $.40 higher per gallon.

But it was nice..........

I drove one too.

People are paying close to that price for Escalades, Yukon Denalis, etc. The TDI is way more powerful, better furnished, higher quality all the way around, and it will knock down 23 mpg, maybe more.

Had balls like the truck on an 85 horse tune.

But I agree, when the price nearly doubles just for the diesel option, something aint quite right. They make 6 cyl. TDI's in that in Europe. Thats what we need here.

For every chip maker in America, there are 5 in Europe. Most of which specialize in diesels.

I would love to have one, but I could have two more Jettas for the price. VW/Audi do make one fine diesel, takes about 15,000 miles to break-in. After that time, they really do haul a$$. Currently my wife's 1.9l TDI is getting 50+ mpg. Would like to see a retest of the V10 after break-in.

Isn't that what Robbie Gordon was driving in Dakar this year? He was definitely impressed with the power at his disposal but complained a bit about turbo lag. I wonder how far off from stock configuration the Dakar units are.
