Had my 2005 Duramax serviced today. The same people have changed the fuel filter by the posted procedure 3 times over 3 years. This time they can't get the truck to start after installation. Seems as if it is getting air into the line. Has anyone had a similar problem.
Any help is appreciated.

I have changed mine myself every time, and no issue as of yet. Maybe they cross threaded or not tightened completely and is letting in a little air. Or maybe they didn't purge the system enough with the pump.

Thanks I will check into it. They also tried a second filter which didn't work either.

Either the filter was installed incorrectly, or the fuel system has air in it, and it needs to be purged or bled out. Sometimes you need to purge the system a few times to get all of the air out. Make sure that the old filter came off along with the 2 o-rings, 1 large outside o-ring and 1 smaller inner o-ring. When you bleed the air out, unscrew the plastic screw, and pump the pumper many times, fully depressing the pump, until you get some fuel with bubbles coming out where the screw is. Then tighten the screw up and pump until the pump is very difficult to depress. Then try starting the truck.
It is also possible that you took a wire off somewhere in the process. Recheck the entire installation process.
Just a side note, I have also changed my own filters, and I have never had 1 problem. I know this doesn't help you much, but the point being that they are not that difficult, and it must be something small causing the no start problem.
Also, take the time to fill out your signiture. This allows the members of this forum to see what year Duramax you have and any modifications that you may have done, thus you will get more accurate information relative to your questions or posts.
Good luck and keep us posted as to your outcome!

The advice is truly appreciated and will post back when the problem is resolved. Last month the truck just died, it turned out to be the injectors needed replacement at 30k. My truck has remained stock. Joining this website and doing the research convinced me to go diesel when my gasser went bad. There is always good content and direction from the members.

My dually has the same issue. If you crank it a lot, and I mean a lot, it finally will start and be fine. The issue is in the head. My primer will not pull any fuel at all. A while back, there was a thread about this. Needs new o-ring(s) and maybe some thing else? I just haven't had 2 minutes to pull it apart...
Look in Frank Blum's garage. He has pictures of what I'm talking about...

The solution resulted in the fuel filter base housing being replaced and a new filter installed. A hairline crack was found in the base housing allowing air to consistantly enter preventing the system from being primed properly.
Thanks to all for their input and hope the follow-up helps.:)
