Okay, here's the scenario, got a 2005 3500 LLY (signature truck) and am going to have a EGR blocker and finger stick put on as well as a boost stick. Will be getting a full 4" exhaust and doing the TXcai mod. What is the best tuner/chip that will work well with this setup. I do tow a 14k lbs 5er and will probably have to do the radiator too.
I had a Bullydog Powerpup on the other truck but didn't like it when I went up to higher altitudes, it seemed to give my truck issues unless I detuned it, let the truck adjust to the altitude then retuned it, PITA to say the least. I got an Edge (no juice) and liked that.
I have heard a lot of people using Predator on their LLY; I do like the fact that I can clear and scan for DTC if I need to. Anyone having Predator issues?
Let me hear what you recommend, oh and BTW, probably not going to mess with EFI live or similar so don't even recommend that, too much temptation for me.

Id do the mods you desribed first. then see how the truck does with those .. then youll be better as to what your tuning needs are . thats my .02.......but on your ? from what Ive read prediter 2.02 is the pref.around here...... me if I went back to a tune I would go with efi live .....but then you would not need the finger & boost I think

I have 3500 04.5 creew long and have installed a 4" MBRP Turbo back exhaust and have found no need to install a egr blocker and finger stick. I get no code light at all. My Bully Dog programer reads egr codes but creates no driving problems at all.;)

I pull different sizes of trailers from a 16' bumper to a 30' gooseneck. I'm running the PPE with the blocker plate. I have some of the mods you are talking about. I love the way the PPE makes my truck run. It brings out the best in it. Towing wise it has 2 seperate towing tunes, I run the higher one. It does awesome even with my 30 footer!

With EFI live you can tune the altittude parameters to your needs, won't need any kind of fingers or boost sticks, can disable the EGR and all related codes, load 5 switchable tunes, clear and read DTC codes, correct speedo for tire size or gear changes, and on and on - I haven't heard of anything yet that another tuner does that you can't do with EFI Live if you know what you are doing (and if you don't ask and someone here will help). Depending on where you buy it you can get a free tow tune with it too. I bought mine from Guy at SoCal Diesel and loaded his tow tune on my otherwise stock truck (at the time, beside 285 tires) and got 22mpg through the mountains of WV and VA on my way from Ohio to NC and a little better on the flat part of NC; and that was hand calculated with the cruise set at 72 the whole way. And the tow tune is a very noticable difference over stock.

If your not interested in Tuning yourself (or it's too much temptation), speak to an EFILive vendor and see if they will write a tune to suit your requirements. That way after you upload your tune, you shouldn't need to touch it again (if you have that sort of self control).

The other option is purchasing a professionally tuned ECM from someone like Kennedy Diesel or RidgeRunner Diesel. These guys use EFILive to create their tunes, and have great user feedback from this site.

Get an EFILive based tune from one of the many tuners that hang around this site.

I know that the LLY is supposed to be an overheater and that is one of my concerns with any kind of tuner or tuner or chip. Are the EFI live tunes good enough to create the power without causing an overheat problem with my truck? I just towed our 39' 5er from Abilene to Ft Worth on Monday when the temps were in the high 80's and the truck drove great. It would get a little warm (210-215) but cool right down when the fan kicked in.
I really don't want to create an overheat problem with my truck, so far I haven't seen the need for the TX Vrad mod and the guy before me with his large horse trailer and Edge juice/with ***. aparently didn't either ( I found the evidence of it after snooping around in the engine bay)
