: Exhaust options?
Kurt W. 01-10-2005, 08:54 PM I don't know whether to get a complete kit or take the cheaper way out and slap a new aftermarket muffler on and and cut off the pipe right after the muffler. I seen a couple pics of that setup but don't know how loud it would be in the cab. I really don't have the money to fork out $600 for a complete system right now. Should I wait or just git er done now. Thanks
WI Huck 01-10-2005, 08:57 PM If you don't want noise in the cab you don't want a straight pipe. Wait to you can do it the right way.
loydt 01-11-2005, 09:56 AM Noise in the cab is a big issue with me, too! I am still stock and would love to put a new, better looking system on mine but do not want it to sound like crap. Which one?

smokin dmax 01-11-2005, 10:40 AM MBRP has a Installer series Aluminized 4" Exhaust that is pretty cheap.
i would not just put another muffler on, many here have reported a "drone" noise at certain crusie rpms that can drive you nuts. i went with the banks monster system and pleased with the sound, have not heard to many others. the sound is low but noticeable when you get on it, but not obnoxious.
Duratys 01-11-2005, 11:46 AM I Too Have The Banks..deep Throaty Sound Definately Not Obnoxious. Prior To This I Cut Off Factory Muffler And Welded In A Dynomax With Stock Exhaust. This Was Louder Than Factory, but I Cant Say That I Hade Any "drone" At Any Rpm...loaded Or Empty. It Sounded Good But The Banks System Is Much More Gooder
Tsckey 01-11-2005, 12:55 PM I have just a 4" straight through muffler and no drone. But I have California truck w/cat that might explain it. Good sound, lower EGT's, though probably not quite down to the levels of a complete system. I confess that if I were to do it again, I would give strong consideration to a complete system.

sprintmod1 01-11-2005, 01:15 PM I would not go the route of the muffler swap only. Probably better to wait until you have the $$ to do it right the first time. I went with an MBRP system including a new front pipe and I am very happy with the sound and the looks. Check out some of the vendors here for some pretty good pricing.
blnagel 01-11-2005, 01:33 PM I love my straight piped Dmax. It is not too loud, but when you wanna be loud, it is!

Los Lobos 01-11-2005, 02:07 PM MBRP duals, nothing meaner, period!!! Still is very tolerable at normal driving.
Goldsburg 01-11-2005, 03:32 PM I went with the Flowmaster swap (cost me $150 installed) and now wish that I would have saved the $$$ and purchased a Diamond Eye 5" system, instead. Part of the problem is that these 4" and 5" exhaust systems were just way out of my price league at the time (they are cheaper now with more players making them).
Now for what I spent on the Flowmaster, I would have had nearly half of the cost of a full 4" aluminized system...:o
Anyway, for what it's worth I do not have any "droning" issues with the Flowmaster...:) I can post pics of the install if you like...?
Kurt W. 01-11-2005, 07:50 PM Thanks for the advise everyone. I think that I'll stick it out for a complete system. With having a little one on the way in a couple months I want a quite cab but want a little more power. If it wasn't for that, it would be a straight pipe! :ro)
Mark Craig 01-11-2005, 08:45 PM Kurt W.,
The members are shooting you straight, get a system they aren't that much more and the long term results are worth it. We are the USA's largest MBRP distributor and have aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainelss singles and dual systems. Give us a call if you have questions we will be glad to help.

Gray Max 01-11-2005, 09:20 PM I am running a straight pipe and my sound level in the truck is not much louder than stock. I have a friend that has a standard cab and it drones like hell when he is pulling. I guess the longer pipe might make the difference. It's all personal preference.
Jim659 01-11-2005, 10:29 PM If you don't have any power upgrades and want it quiet in the cab why not just leave it alone? You won't see any more power from exaust only, so why bother?
sprintmod1 01-12-2005, 09:37 AM Kurt,
Your last post indicates that you are looking for "a little more power"; if that is the case, then why don't you look into a box for it (can't tell from sig if you have one or not). Maybe look into the Edge or a Predator. There are some members who are selling their LB7 stuff because of moving up to a LLY or a bigger tune. Check the classified section. I got my Juice that way. Selling member got it sold, I saved quite a bit and got the additional power I was looking for.
Kurt W. 01-12-2005, 10:20 AM Yeah, a programmer is another thing that I want to. Even before the exhaust, not just for the power but to be able to adjust for tire sizes. Never thought about buying a used one though. Thats kinda why I asked if installing a new muffler and downspout would be just as good as a complete system and cheaper. Can't afford both, at least now anyways
And Jim659, I do want some sound too. Just not in the cab. I know I really don't need it, but I just can't leave nothing alone. :)
sprintmod1 01-12-2005, 01:45 PM Gotta LOVE this site, always more bang for the buck at every corner. Gotta thank NICK for getting and keeping this going!! :ro) :ro) :)
fireresource 01-12-2005, 02:07 PM installed the MBRP system a few days ago... i would highly recommend it for people wanting a quiet system. absolutely NO DRONE. it did cause the exhaust sound to be deeper, but NOT loud by any means. took me 2 hours to do it myself.
Kurt W. 01-12-2005, 06:47 PM How much for the complete system? Seems like alot of people like it.

dewhart 01-13-2005, 10:41 AM Has anybody installed an Areoturbine 4" muffler?
RickDLance 01-13-2005, 11:10 AM I did the Aeroturbine on 1 of my 01's. It was a little too loud for me. I called them and they sent me another one. I installed both of them on my truck and was happy with the results. I did not have an EGT gauge, but my mileage and power did seem to go up a little. Up to that point my best mileage was 19, and after I got several 20+ tanks hand calculated.
Mark Craig 01-13-2005, 01:40 PM Kurt W,
Check our site and read our price guarantee, we have pics, sound bites, and all the options there for you to select from. I would post prices but it's against site policy.
