So I've been looking for an motor oil to stick with... Read through the forums and looks like Delo is popular and has proved itself. So I bought it at Costco.

Now, Costco, Wally Mart and others only stock the "LE" version. I read on; http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf , that the new CJ-4 oils aren't as good as the CI-4+ oils. The CJ oils are for the 2007 and newer motors with the DPF of course.

I finally found some Delo 400 multi-grade CI-4+ at an petroleum dealer. I bought a few 5-gallon pails from them. They said that once the supply of the CI-4+ oil (which they only have 13 pails left), that they will only have the new LE version.

I read on Chevron's website that the LE version is backward compatible with CI-4+. But, the motor oil test in the above article proves different. Or does it?...

Not to beat the whole "best oil" thing to death, but I was just wondering if someone knew the truth?

I wouldn't place too much faith in what one man on tdr says.

I recently had a UOA done by Blackstone Labs. The results were quite good. I use Delo 400 LE.

I posted my UOA on one of the boards I frequent and someone mentioned that same report. After reading the report and spending some time researching the CJ-4 oils I called Blackstone.

The tech at Blackstone said that in the samplings they've done on the CJ-4 oils have not shown any significant changes in engine wear compared to the CI oils.

I'll do another UOA once I get about 5k miles on the current oil and see how it comes out. But for now, I don't have any plans to change.

Here's my UOA if anyone is interested.

I read in diesel power awhile back that the new cj4 oil is superior for wear protection than ci4 oil in all engines. In MHO if it's got less sulfur in it(which is corrosive) it's got to be better.

CJ4 spec oils are fine, as evidenced by UOA. The guy at TDR is only looking at it from a reduced TBN standpoint, which is pretty foolish.

The detergent package is changed from CI-4+/CJ-4 oils, and the CJ-4 has reduced sulfated ash levels. CJ4 oils are very good in regards to anti-wear characteristics.
