sorry this is a noob question but what are these nicktane filter things? never even heard of them before but everyone seems to have them, they have to be good or there wouldn't be a whole section on here devoted to them :) what all do you gain with them?

it is a secondary fuel filter that mounts before the OEM filter. it extends the life of your OEM filter greatly, filters much better, is easier to change, and the element is cheaper.

At $4K for a new set of injectors, that is enough. :cool_shad

So is this thing basically the same thing as my fass pump with filters? Or does it completely bypass the oe filter?

Diesel Power

it doesn't have a pump built it, but it filters down to 2 microns. it doesn't reaplce the OE filter due to potiential warranty problems.

what is the stock filter rated at? and if the injectors are subject to damage why doesn't GM do something about it....sounds like a pretty easy fix for them.

This question has been asked more times than we can count and it would make sense for GM to do the right thing but fixing parts on expensive vehicle is how they make money from US the customer. Why make it an easy fix if they can sell lots of expensive parts and make more money??

I'm hearing from my Carquest store that their filters (which are relabeled Wix filters) are rated at 2 micron. Isn't that what the doctor ordered?

The stock OEM replacement filters are not 2 micron. I believe they are 5 micron, and some of the older filters are 10 micron. By running the Nicktane before the OEM, you get a filter that is easier to change, and provides much better filtration than stock. Don't get fooled regarding micron ratings. Some are absolute, and some are nominal.

A nominal rating means that a filter will remove 50% of all particles, equal to or larger, within a single pass. Therefore you can ethically claim a nominal rating of 1 micron. An absolute rating means that a filter will remove 99% of all particles, equal to or larger, within a single pass. Therefore you can ethically claim an absolute rating of 3 microns.

This information was taken from the Oilguard site, and is an example of how micron ratings work. Hope it helps.

Check out my post on this thread and look at the filters at 15K. The CAT did its job!

Ordered my Nicktane yesterday. I cant wait to get it installed. After researching alot of info on filter systems, the nicktane is the biggest bang for your buck.

I see they have a lift kit + filter for $360 + $220. Kennedy has a lift+filter $835. Pros / cons other than cost? sounds like a no brainer

To tell you for certain I would have to find my notes. From what I remember both use a 2 absolute micron filter but the unit from Kennedy is a single unit with one pump before the filter and one after the filter. Very good looking unit. You could do same with TTS pumps but it just will not have same look. For cost reasons, I am installing a nicktane then save for the TTS Lift Pumps. Both great systems IMHO, its just what you can afford and how you want it to look.
