: Where to Relocate outside air temp sensor?
skoryaro2 01-10-2005, 03:32 PM I want to relocate the sensor for the outside air temperature so that it is not so far off when the winter front is on. Can someone point me in the right direction as to where it is and where to relocate it. I saw on Kennedy's website that he relocated his but he didn't go into much detail as to what he did.
BTW - tried a search and couldn't find it :)
a bear 01-10-2005, 04:19 PM I think there's an article w/pics on relocating the temp sensor on the Kennedy Diesel web page. Look under tech tips.

You may want to re-read my original post again :)
a bear 01-10-2005, 04:26 PM Oops! Maybe I should read the whole post next time. :o
NCMIC 01-10-2005, 04:44 PM where is the sensor located, in original location. I had been searching for it, not too hard though, and wanted relocate mine to an area where I could receive a more accurate reading.
skoryaro2 01-10-2005, 04:56 PM I'm sure Kennedy (or someone else in the know) will chime in as soon as we get their attention
Kennedy 01-10-2005, 05:46 PM The sensor is alongside the trans cooler on the cross brace. I'll have the updates to my Tech tip done soon. Likely Tuesday.

on my 05 GMC the temperature on the mirror didn't seemed to be affected by my winter cover.
TheBac 01-10-2005, 08:00 PM Skory,
If the temp sensor on your '05 (congrats, by the way!!!!) is in the same locale as on my '02, I moved mine down onto the lower bar of the core support. I took out one of the clips holding the temp sensor wire loom in, and plugged the sensor into that hole. I had to trim off the little tab on the mount to make it sit flat is all. The wire loom I then tied up with tie straps. This set the sensor up even with the upper vent in the bumper.
Tom
skoryaro2 01-10-2005, 08:20 PM Thanx for the replies so far......BTW mine is off on average 4-5 degrees F with the winter front on.
blizzardplowman 01-10-2005, 08:38 PM If you think its off with a winter front- I agree 4-5 Degrees on my 03 - try a 8' snow plow- could be as much as 30-40 Degrees on my 01 with the plow. I have yet to find a better place on the truck with the plow, maybe behind the parking light- haven't tried there yet. Some one said the sensor was relocated on a 05- I'll find out this week as my new truck should be done at the rust proof guy Wednesday. If I don't get this pile of mods installed soon the Wife is gona figure out how much I did Spend ):h
aegis 01-10-2005, 09:04 PM With my cover on I had a variance of 13 15 degrees. I mounted my sensor lower/closer to the bumber vent on drivers side. I just did this yesterday so I haven't had a chance to see if this helped any.
Kennedy 01-11-2005, 06:41 PM I had the Tech Tip redone to show my 2005:

skoryaro2 01-11-2005, 07:06 PM Thanks Kennedy! That's what keeps us comin' back :)
robabner 01-12-2005, 10:55 PM I had originally done kennedys old relocate, since I am running the grille cover and my 8 1/2' Plow. Well today I am on my way home from work on the freeway and hammer to get off at my exit I get around the ramp and get slowed down in traffic and I realize it is freezing inside the truck, actual outside temp about 65, I look at the mirrir and it says 133. I quickly found out the HVAC had blasted the AC. Had digital set at 68.
So when I got home I moved the sensor down by the tow hook on driver side just zip tied it temporary for now to see if it is more accurate.
Does anyone know what the identical looking sensor on the passenger side is for?
Sorry about the rambling!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
Kennedy 01-13-2005, 10:19 AM I believe the identical looking sensor is for the HVAC system.
DAFiles 01-15-2005, 11:55 AM I thought about moving mine. I changed my mind. It's nice to know the temp in front of the radiator for the warmer days. As long as it stays low I figure its OK to leave the cover on.
Jumper357 01-15-2005, 03:54 PM Are saying moving the a/c sensor will make it work better?
