I work for a munucipal power company in South Dakota. We just purchased a new 08 Duramax service truck and a 08 7400 WorkSTar International Digger Derrick. Since we're a municipal we don't have to pay tax so our fleet barrel has dyed diesel fuel in it. The dyed fuel is ultra low sulfer diesel. My question is will it be okay with the dye. I don't know what the dye is so I need to know if it will mess with the new filter systems that we are forced to deal with now.

That sounds like a question that should be asked of the fuel blender. Be sure to tell them the fuel is passing through a 2 micron filter

I think either way its dyed green for on road or red for off road. Our municipal fuel is green. As a municipality, the only thing that we dont pay is state sales tax, all the other Federal taxes are on our bills.

Previously, the dye was not an issue for our trucks, GM had a TSB IIRC, stating it was alright to use dyed fuel. Not sure if anything has changed with the DPF's though.

the dye is just that a dye it doesn't do anything to the fuel but turn it a different color and make it easier for the cops to catch you if you have it in your tank or had it in your tank if they want to cut open your filter so it shouldn't affect your new truck at all

As long as it's ULSD, it'll be fine. As Chromer said, you do want to make sure it's filtered, but I assume you have been running it in other trucks as well?? Ahh, hell with it, run it. :)

Thanks for the input. Talked to our fuel supplier and it's dyed ultra low sulfer diesel. So It should be just fine.
