What does the large plastic piece on the top of the Engine that says 6.6 Turbo Diesel do? :o

just a resonator to baffle the sound of incoming forced air and all.. takes up space in my opinion.. lol

My guess was right! Especially the part about taking up space :)

Be thankful for small favors.

There would be a whole lot more space taken up if they would have put the air filter up there directly.

I think they should have put the air filter up there and put a nice hood scoop on the truck.

It provides a volume of air - at least in motorcycles, an additional volume of air in this location in the intake tract provides improved low end throttle response.

But, it could be to provide a resonance chamber - baffling noise that can be heard through the intake.

:ro)Can you imagine a functional hood scoop? The truck would have to come with a warning label...

Caution: Keep small animals, children, and loose fitting clothing away from this truck while running as they may be inadvertently drawn into the intake track of your vehicle. ):h

An additional operator warning label might also be necessary,

Caution: While in operation be aware of small birds, and debris near your vehicle as they may have a tendency to be sucked into the hood intake of your truck while in operation.

Ahh… but wouldn’t that warning label be grand? :ro)

I was thinking someone should come up with a cowl induction type flapper run by boost. It would be pretty funny on a truck...like the old Chevelles had.

I've seen one at truck show on a newer gm I can't remember who makes it though.
