Is the Odometer reading stored in the instrument cluster only or is it stored in the ECM...I am worried that my truck may have had the DIC fuse removed for a while to stop the mileage and then put back in...How can i be sure..And can this be done without showing up on a scan at the dealership.

I know you can change out the cluster and the miles change. I would honestly doubt that it's stored in the ECM too. I know they'll probably tell you that to deter you from changing out clusters, but I find it hard to believe with ECM flashes that it keeps the info. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I hope it does for you...but I doubt it. What makes you think that there's more miles on it?

im pretty sure the mileage is stored in the cluster. i replaced the cluster on my old 00 1500 to a denali one when i was towing my old trailer since it had a trans temp guage. the orig had somethin like 107,XXX. switched the denali one in and it had 28,XXX. when i switched it back to the orig cluster after a couple months when i traded it still showed the same 107,XXX as when i took it out. i dont think that removing the DIC fuse will stop the odometer however

The look of the wear and tear...Just wanting to make sure before i make a huge mistake...I tried the DIC fuse last night on my truck and it stops the odometer...scary thought
