: What spray in liner do you have? Why?
Rookiew/Dmax 01-10-2005, 09:42 AM I really want get a spray in liner on my vehicle but I am a little up in the air on what to choose,
I like the Rhino finish, but I cannot find where there is a "lifetime warranty"
Line X has the warranty, apperance is not bad, but I still like Rhino better.
Armacoatings - Never seen
Just looking for some bias opinions.
kbstinky 01-10-2005, 09:48 AM Went with LineX because of warranty.
Spray the liner with a little soap, scrub it, and it looks brand new.
Rhino, according to my research fades.
cowdoc 01-10-2005, 09:49 AM I have had Speedliner, and one other that I cannot recall the name of, but it was very similar to Line-X. I currently have a Line-X. Each have had their good and bad points, but all-in-all I prefer the Line-X. I have never seen a Rhhino lining in person so I can't really comment on it. Any of them beats the heck out of a drop in! Just my .02.
ratlover 01-10-2005, 09:49 AM Aurmorthane(SP?) becasue....
its thick and rubbery and it gives good traction wet/dry
I also like the lifetime warantee, and it has held up well even with me hauling a 1k of pavers in the bed of my truck in the winter. had it for over a year
Duratys 01-10-2005, 10:10 AM Went With Line-x Also. First Truck Ive Had With Bed Protection Wouldconsider It Again If I Had To Do It All Over Again.....box Looks New All The Time
BudTX 01-10-2005, 10:20 AM Line-X
Pros: Extremely durable, lifetime warranty honored by any Line-X dealer, doesn't fade, application is uniform (doesn't run during application).
Cons: Can be somewhat slick, despite textured surface.
Rhino
Pros: Grips cargo (i.e. not very slippery).
Cons: Application not uniform (has runs in the funished product), not as durable, warranty is limited to installing dealer.
I went with Line-X on this current truck, opting for an over the rail bed liner plus sprayed rocker panels to protect against rock chips. I am very pleased with the product.
Bud
Slick 01-10-2005, 11:34 AM Bud, do you have any pics of your sprayed rocket panels?
DavesDmax 01-10-2005, 12:00 PM I was going to go with Rhino lining but found out that the dealer that I bought my truck from was a Line-X dealer also. Couldn't be the price and the warranty. I have had them make one repair to the lining in the bed and it was no problem at all.
I had mine shot over the rails and they did a very nice job.
It worked out even better with the Access Roll-Top cover as they had to mask off part of the sides of the bed to ensure spacing was correct for the cover frame.
A big part of the decision is whether you are going to stay in the area of the installer of the Rhino lining as their warranty is by installer, not by the company. Also, the installer that has a better reputation, should be the one you go with. Shooting these liners is like painting, anyone can shoot them but the good ones are the one's you want to have do your truck.
3-Fan 01-10-2005, 12:10 PM Armacoating for me. Very similar to the Line-X in appearance. The Armacoat and Line-X are the only 2 (when I had it installed) that are applied under high pressure and at a high temperature. This results in a better more even covering my my opinion. The Rhino always looks like it is glopped on. It and all others are applied cold and under low pressure.
Had mine on for 3 years. No fading. Lifetime warranty on mine. It was lsightly less than the Line-X
WAskier 01-10-2005, 12:19 PM Line-x is also applied Hot I believe. My truck is line-x'd because of the warranty, the non-fading finish and the fact that my dealer is very nice to me and also happens to be a line-x dealer.
It was also nice for when we moved a gun safe, the guys loading it into the truck really liked the line-x as they've loaded safes into trucks with rhino liner and the stuff was so sticky they had a really hard time getting the boxes in. Just gotta make sure you tie down things that are a little slippery on the bottom.
BudTX 01-10-2005, 12:21 PM Bud, do you have any pics of your sprayed rocket panels?
I don't have any pictures, but will see if I can get my teenagers to help me take a couple and post them up here when the weather clears up. To visualize, they run up the rocker panels to the bottom of where the doors start, from the rear of the front wheelwell to the back bumper.
I've had Line X (in current p/u), Arma (in our '66 Bronco), and Turbo Liner (in my prev Dodge). Line X and Arma almost look the same, but Arma is a bit less expensive, but fewer dealers. Turbo Liner is total garbage. Faded in less than one year, and tore easily.
I hear Rhino fades, but have no first hand experience.
Burt4x4 01-10-2005, 03:32 PM I used www.sprayonbedliner.com (http://www.sprayonbedliner.com) 300 bucks and lifetime warrenty. That and it was done the day before I picked up my rig from the dealer:D
So far it is working very well...
OmyLLwhy 01-10-2005, 04:11 PM Line-x; warranty and the shop was willing to pu & deliver no charge.
about $400.00 for a short box. Tom C.
BUCKSHOTjr 01-10-2005, 04:16 PM This is my second truck that I put the Line-X in it is the only way to go!
That Rhino stuff looks like bubble gum.
over the rail on a short bed for $398 seem like a good price for line-x ?
BudTX 01-10-2005, 04:59 PM Under $400 is a great price for over the rail. It is $150 more in Kansas City.
HeavyD 01-10-2005, 06:19 PM I went with Line-X over the rail. Plan on doing it again with the next truck. Nearly two years and good as new.
Idle_Chatter 01-10-2005, 07:10 PM I had Line-X shot under rail when I purchased my truck in Oct 01 - dealer in Greenbay had an agreement with a local Line-X shop that did an excellent job. In Nov 03, I had to take my cap off for some body work, so I had a Toledo Line-X shop shoot the rails. Stuff has been everything they promise and more. Toledo dealer thought I was lying to him about the in-box because he said it looked brand new! (I guess keeping a bed cap over it for three years helped there!) Line-X is all that I've experienced - but I have no desire to experiment and would use it again if I had too.
fireboat0308 01-10-2005, 07:37 PM The Line-x I have seen dried hard as a rock. My neighbor had to buy a rubber mat to keep his tools from sliding all around the box. I went with the Rhino because it has a little give to it. No problem with tools sliding to the front of the box. $350 for over the rail with lifetime waranty. 04.5 HD D/A 4x4 stock with factory fuel knock.
Diesel Bob 01-10-2005, 08:38 PM Rhino Liner over-the-rail. Came already applied when I bought the truck from Texas, so I probably don't have any warranty. So far, so good. No fading or any imperfections, not slippery at all. I would go with Rhino again.
CalDirt 01-10-2005, 09:08 PM I shot Rhino on my 97 K1500 and beat the snot out of it. I motocross and literally throw my ramp in when I'm done. My Rhino took a beating and finally one day got a tear in it (after about 8 years, and the Fresno summer of 105-110 degrees and winter of 25-50).
I called Rhino since the dealer that shot it was out of business. Rhino took 3-4 weeks to process my claim, but they finally sent me to a local dealer who fixed me right up.
Several people above mentioned Line-X because of warranty but I'm not sure what more one would want in a warranty than what I received. I think someone also mentioned above that Rhino warranty was limited to installing dealer but my experience shows otherwise.
Someone also mentioned that LineX dries hard and you'll need a mat - so does Rhino. I also installed a bed mat in my truck because the Rhino dried rock hard, which was a good thing IMHO. Yes, it is a *little* rubbery after it's first shot, but after <1 year of weathering, it's pretty hard and slippery, so a mat makes sense for me.
Personally I've heard lots of good things about both LineX and Rhino and they appear to be the two leaders so I dont' think you can go wrong with either. Only downside might be that Rhino enjoyed some initial success and got too big for their briches. That might be what gave LineX a foot in the door. Eight years ago, Rhino was the bomb, but now it sounds like LineX has a pretty good foothold in the market. This isn't scientific, but it appears that Rhino will charge you a premium. Either way, I think if you choose one of the top two brands, you'll probably be happy. I haven't heard anything bad about LineX.
BTW: I researched this before spraying my 2004. Went with Rhino again.
56Nomad 01-10-2005, 09:35 PM Went With Line-x Also. First Truck Ive Had With Bed Protection Wouldconsider It Again If I Had To Do It All Over Again.....box Looks New All The Time
Ditto here....... Line-X still looks great in my old 2002
LaBeym 01-10-2005, 10:26 PM Went with Line-X due to harder finish and warrenty.
I went with SuperLiner. I had Rhino on my other truck and it faded/chalked or whatever you call it. It had good coverage and held up VERY well to the rock/gravel/dirt I hauled, but didn't like the looks after about a year.
SuperLiner was about the same cost, is supposed to not have the UV issues and just as tough. I'll let you know in a year or so.):h Just had it sprayed on over my Reese Signature Series hitch mounts.

Looks almost factory-like!
mac1234 01-10-2005, 11:53 PM I went with Rhino. Very happy with it. I use it in my plumbing truck and beat the snot out of it. Mac

akdiesel 01-11-2005, 12:19 AM These questions about "What is the best spray in liner out there" is just like the same question as "What is the best diesel truck out there". You will get alot of pros remarks on the liners that people own because more than likely that is the only one that they have ever had and they are very good at lasting a long time.
The real question is who is the best installer in my area for sray in liners. That is the major part of the product. All of the spray ins are very similar in toughness and longevity and warrenty.
Look at the dealers work and see for your self after you get some info for the installers in your area.
I went with Line-X. Rhino impresses me as being rather "gummy", particularly in hot weather, and I thought that Line-X would hold up better and be less subject to abrasion. I have also heard that the quality of installation of Rhino is more variable, depending on who installs it.
Whichever one you get, make sure you have it installed by an installer with a good reputation. I had mine installed by a Line-X franchisee in Bow, NH. Went there because they had positive feedback on some web site somewhere. Also, no sales tax in NH!
CalDirt 01-11-2005, 03:44 PM akdiesel you're right about it being mainly about the installer first, and product second.
my installer showed me cool tricks you can do with water and the chemical they spray on, and blew stuff up, so he gets an "A" in my book. ;)
XTOAK 01-11-2005, 11:34 PM I just had my truck delivered to me here at the house after getting it Rhinolined and it looks fantastic. The dealer picked up my truck at the house which is 31 miles from the Rhino dealership, he sprayed it the next day and just dropped it off...that's service! I think the biggest thing to consider with any liner is the service before and after the sale. I've had the same dealer put Rhino liners in the company pickups - and they get abused - but they have held up like they were new. For me, the Rhino lining was the way to go but then we don't get 100+ degree temps here in Alaska so the "softer" feel isn't a factor.
Slick 01-12-2005, 07:04 AM I appreciate you trying to get pictures for me Budtx, sorry I couldn't reply back to this thread sooner.
