Help well it all started back in 1998 when this thing was built!
But I just got this truck for a charity so I don't know the history of it. The truck is a 3500 gmc with 128.000k on it. 6.5 td. I picked it up 400km away and drove it back to town without any problems. the next day it would not start. So I towed it to a local repair shop to have the pmd checked and as I suspected it was bad. $1000.00 later yaaaaye it runs. So I took it to get an etest done and then I got the call saying that it could not be tested because the governor was not working. so I picked up the truck and what they ment by that is they couldn't get it to stay at a steady rpm. so suspecting the ip I scanned it and the idle fuel ratio was 7.1. So the next time I started the truck it started kicking and bucking like it was missing on a couple cyclenders. The idle is stuck at about 1300-1600 rpm and just sits there and shakes. no codes oh and if i put it in gear it stops missing and runs good but is still at very high rpm like 1300. I noticed that when i shut it off the turbo winds down. I also found on the scan tool that the baro was at 99 and so was the reading above it can't remember what it was.
now that it is stuck at high idle if i run the idle up and hold it it stays there.
realy need help here as I am repairing this truck for a charity (no charge) on a very very very low budget
Thanx in advance Rob Hagerman

Maybe there is a high idle switch that is engaged, installed by PO
Check the kennedy diesel site tips on high idle install.......Click on vendors (top of page) and go to kennedy diesel.

no there is not a idle sel.
But good idea thanx.
it runs very rough like it was running in the first few min of a minus 15 day without being plugged in.
the motor stops shaking when u put it in gear though. But it is still at 13-1600rpm.

high idle switch is not a factory option.......but many people have installed them......is there any kind of toggle switch or any after market switch in on or under the dash?

$1000 to replace the PMD:eek:. Did they put it back on the pump? If so, I would check that they didn't leave a sensor unplugged (ECT, MAP, etc...). Does the SES light come on when you turn the IGN on. If you didn't have the SES light with a goofed-up reading un the BARO I would make sure the light works.

Also I just noticed that the ses light is not lighting under any condition at bulb check or even with sensors unplugged. ECM failure?????

Probably blown or unplugged bulb. Get bulb fixed and scan for codes. It may tell you what the problem is, instead of guessing.

I would still scan for codes, if you haven't done so.
