I think my 1/2 ton weighs in at around 4800 or so, and the 1 tons can get up to how much?

There Is No Replacement For Displacement, It May Be Faster Than An Lb7 Or An Lly, But Wont Touch An Lbz Or Lmm, Thats My Bet.....

Absolutely but the key here is that they are both stock

I don't know what the availability will be.... but if I can get a 4.5 in a RC 2WD short box.......

I'll put a benny on the 4.5:D

300/520 good close ratio tranny. 4.5 in the 1500 should be low 15 to high 14s depending on the tranny

if the 4l85s is there lbz will beat to but not by much

Whoa, my 1/2 ton is 5700. about 7000lb with plow and ballast.

I think i would put my money on the new 4.5, because at its release date i bet the 300/520 numbers will be higher due to the release of other 1/2 ton diesels

I don't know, but in stock form I would be tempted to put my money on the 1/2 ton 4.5L. I had a 2000 Chevy 1/2 ton SB 2WD(before I was blessed with my DMAX), that was faster than my dads LB7 stock. It completely blew it away.

my bet is on the 4.5.
if the 6.6 was set up as a 4x2 long bed regular cab, it might weigh the same or close to the 4.5.

hey dan you gunna make some hot+2et's for the lil D?

i dont know, im betting it will beat the lb7 and lly since the power is the same as the lb7 and weighs much less, but the lbz's and lmms are really fast for a stock truck. will be interesting to see! i hope it is as fast as malibu thinks!!!

I am very interested in these new trucks coming out. Bear with me i am a noob but will these trucks have same drive trains as the 2500 diesels? I will be looking to get a diesel in about 2 years but im gona need it to be as tough as 2500's because it will be doing construction duties. Any input will be highly appreciated. Thank you

Pulling power the 6.6 should come out ahead. There was a recent article about the V10 Tourag. It did well but when it came to towing the Dmax they compared it to beat it easily. Yes the HP and TQ numbers are different but the Dmax pulled a heavier trailer.

That is the $64K question and I say no! The trans will have to be beefed to handle the torque and it would be nice if they put the 6L90 in it but they ultimately have to watch that they don't price themselves out of the market and make a 1/2 ton diesel way more expensive then a 3/4 gas.

Stock vs stock, I'd tend to lean towards the 4.5L. As soon as you start tweaking and increasing the hp, I'd lean toward the 6.6L...... there's no replacement for displacement. I think the stock Alli will hold up better to extra power than the 4.5L's tranny as well.

Ultimately, will the 4.5L's tranny be able to built to handle 7-800hp and 14000-1600 ft/lbs of torque???

That would be awsome lol I would definatly take it over the 6.6 if you can get that much ft/lbs of torque

The 4.5 will need a diesel-strength running gear, maybe even bigger brakes. There won't be that much difference in weight between 1/2t and 3/4t. Speculation is pointless. The thing won't be out for another 1-1/2yrs anyway and a lot can change in that time, so who cares? Just wait and see.

if i wanted a 6 banger diesel i would buy a cummins. if i wanted to shoot myself in the foot i would buy a power stroke, and if my girlfriend told me she wants a cute diesel i would buy her a baby duramax.

not baggin on GM, but im not going to half-ass a truck. or pass up an allison.

I'm talking at the engine here. Keith's truck, Nasty, made over 1,000 on the dyno at the rear wheels. That'd mean about, what? 1,300 at the crank considering driveline loss? That's 4.3x the amount of hp the motor was originally spec'd at from GM. The 4.5 is coming with higher numbers right off the bat than the LB7 as far as hp is concerned. I wouldn't think it'd be too much of a stretch after a few years to see a 4.5 putting out 2-3x it's original designed output after someone like Eric or one of the other engine builders figures out how to "improve" on it.

Yeah, but if you have no need for the 3/4 of 1 ton truck, it's not exactly half-assing it.

True true. I didn't need a 3/4T but it was the only way i could get the big D. Personally I'd rather have a half-ton diesel, but it doesnt matter now because im married to the one I have for at least 10 years.

I'd rock a Baby Duramax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You still dont get the Allison tranny. In my book (wich is the only book that counts):D If you can get something bigger and better then do it.

cry me a river if its heavier.

gm knows how to make them now. no sense in paying someone else to do it if you can do it yourself.

I'm really curious about the new DMax's. If I had to bet on one or the other in stock form and identicle body configuration I would go with the LBZ or LMM. I have to go with the extra 150 foot pounds of torque to put my money on.

Wide Open
02-20-2008, 12:34 PM
Wow well I thought that was, though I may be wrong (RCSB and 2WD).

My RCSB 4X4 weighs 4620 lbs. Add a 200-500 lbs for the increased driveline mass and it all should add up to a very interesting race. I take the 4.5 at least out of the hole because it "should" weigh significantly less.

Wide Open
02-22-2008, 07:59 PM
The 6L90E is the only logical choice if I am the decision maker at GM. The 6L90 is smaller and lighter, not to mention cheaper, than the Allison but still capable of handling the torque of the 4.5L.

Dougalicious
02-22-2008, 09:18 PM
Ah crap 6L90E was what I was thinking. Guess I should just stick to paying attention in class instead of posting on message boards.
