Ya I Know, a little basic but a bit of a surprise to someone who's lived "Upnort" for most of his 50+ years.

During the cold weather these past few weeks I've not been able to use the windshield washers. I was sorta blaming the truck because the wifes car was doing just fine then one morning I noticed it - a 1/2 full jug of frozen blue juice. :wtf: Hey - that's the jug I used to fill my truck so, I look at the label to see these words "PROTECTS TO 32F". I'm impressed - the marketing guys who came up with the label for Walmarts Super Tech winshield washed fluid have found a way to make Blue Water. I suppose if they're selling to the buyers in Bentonville, AR, 32 degrees sounds cold. ;)

It's 45 degrees today and that little pump will be working overtime to empty the tank. Note to self - buy the tried and true blue juice on the way home this evening - just like the stuff in the wifes car.

Ouch, I wouldn't have thought to check it either. In Ohio I guess we just assume the stuff has a lower freezing point than water haha.

Rain-X orange washer fluid all the way.....

I learned that the hard way my first winter in Kansas. The blue stuff is fine for washing bugs off, but you want the orange stuff for the cold weather.

Can hardly find it anywhere in the flat lands of Cali. It's always the "to32F" stuff. The truck stop I fill up at everyday got some of the "to-20F" a few weeks ago, so I stocked up. Very Very Rarely gets below 32 where I'm at, but travel to the Mountains a few times a year where it does.

I would think that you could add a little anitfreeze to the regular stuff and it will keep it from freezing. The -20F stuff I got is the same as the 32F but with Methyl alcohol in it, which is basically what anitfreeze is.

Off-topic: My truckstop also carries some rain-x washer fluid additive that basically puts Rain-X in your washer fluid, so everytime you wash your windows, it applies rain-x. I'm on my third bottle of the stuff and love it. Have barely had to use my wipers driving in the rain:D

The blue juice that sold this far north won't (or shouldn't) turn solid in sub zero temps - In fact most stations have pallets of the stuff outside just to prove the point. That is except for Walmart, who keeps it inside.

This would be a good opportunity to try the orange stuff and hear the DW comment on how "that pampered PU" needs another special fluid.

Those sneaky bastards!! I just looked at my blue stuff and it says the same thing, 32*f!! I was getting mad at my poor truck for freezing up on me. Who the hell found a way to make us pay $2.49 a gallon for non-drinkable, blue water?? What a load of crap. Haha, somebody's making money. Prolly some little 15 year old kid in his parents basement with a gallon of blue dye... ech.

To me the orange stuff cleans better than the blue.

Both of my bottles are blue (32 and -20).

The "Blue Water" does actually get the bugs off better than plain ol water. Maybe it's just dilluted windex?

Around here the wintertime "blue" is -20F and "orange" is -35F. I had a bottle of blue start to freeze last week when it got to -15F, garage was a little cold eh?

Well, my washer system has quit after driving a few hours on a day when some snow came down. The spraying nozzles are on the wiper arms, and though I was using the blue stuff, they froze. The hose on the passenger side cracked from the water pressure, spraying the water across the hood. Now even the pump doesn't seem to work anymore. I`ll have to rebuild the whole system: maybe heat the water tank, or move it closer to the engine to keep it warm, use heated spraying nozzles if I can get some, and in any case, put them into the hood where they get some heat from the engine.

This is very much like it was on the Tahoe I had, the wipers stopped working due to a broken relais, the hoses came apart and the pumps were short of quitting, too. But the system wasn't half as old as on the Suburban, so it seems they made them worse instead of better. It's really annoying when the washer doesn't work ... Once it works again, I'll give rainx a try ...

Hmm, I guess that explains my busted washer bottle. Here I had been blaming it on the truck coming up from TX and having non winter stuff in the washers...

Anyone have a spare?

The color is just dye. You can buy ANY color washer fluid in San Diego and I guarantee it will freeze at 32*F. California regulators (I don't know which ones, but probably the Air Resources Board) have decided that not only do we not need it, but we would never travel into the mountains or up north, or go skiing . . . why would we do that?

Actually, where I live it gets down into the 20's sometimes and it freezes at the nozzles.

If I go to Arizona or Utah I try to bring some good stuff back.

Last time I looked, Walmart had "Summer" and "Winter" versions of what otherwise look like identical bottles and labels. Once I found them mixed on the same shelf so you had to pay attention. Of course, that's not a problem where I live, it's always "Summer".

I use the Rain-X with De-icer. It kicks azz. Walmart by me has the best price.

It's been on the cold side here and I didn't think of looking at the windshield wash; I've been away from MN too long to remember.

I'm using Rain-X 2in1 and it's good to 25.

I like the Rain-X as the water really runs off.

When it get's colder than 25 I use cold weather windshield wash and add Rain-X.

Seeing is too important compared to saving money on windshield wash.
