For better or worse, I got a deal on an unused 3120, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience hooking one up to the '94 truck.

As I understand it, the '94 was a bit of a bastard child in the scheme of the OBD scene. Or I got it wrong...

The deal is done, and it will pay for itself the first time some pump jockey forgets to tighten the gas cap on the wifes car, so not too worried there.

Pretty much a matter of satisfying my curiosity.

Was looking at the 3140, but for the price I paid on this deal, $122, I figure I can flog it pretty quick if I feel the need to upgrade.

I'm dragging this one up to the top, to drop in a report on the Equus Innova 3120 Scan Tool.

I got it home and hooked it up, and a very few short minutes later, had a list of codes downloaded.

Seems to work OK.

The 3120's internal library recognized the VIN code and asked if it was a truck, and puked up DTC's 54, 53, and history codes of 38, 42,41,54,53,87,96.

This list came up a bit different than those pulled via paper clip.

FWIW:
Hard Codes.
54 PCM fuel circuit error
53 System Voltage High
History Codes
38 TCC Brake Switch Stuck "OFF"
42 Fuel Temperature Circuit Low (High Temp)
41 Brake Switch Circuit Fault
54 and 53 are covered above
87 High Ratio Error
96 Transmission voltage low - low system voltage possibly
caused by generator voltage supply circuit or power
train control module (unashamedly copied from a list I found on the rest of the web)

DTC codes 87 and 96 do not show on the DTC lookup tool at this site.

Now, it's been a stretch of -20 to -35 degC weather, and I have been quite less than enthused to be out and under the truck in the cold. The weather seems to have warmed a bit, with a forecast for the weekend nearer to zero. Tolerable.

I'm planning on doing some work on this again.

I figure I should ask the questions separately from this.

AFAIK, the Equus 3120 is working. I do not know about the accuracy of it's code library for descriptions, but the codes are the codes. Have not tried it for erasing the codes, but expect it to work fine. I'm pretty pleased, and this tool is going to outlast the truck, and I expect the truck to last me quite a while...
