: New exhaust Installed...hitting the shock! HELP!
christianman316 01-28-2008, 09:43 AM Hey ya'll. I got my 4" Magnaflow exhaust installed on Saturday afternoon...not a bad job at all. Once I got it up in the air..took about an hour. I only have one problem. On the tailpipe end. I am hittin on my shock! It rattles like crazy and is driving me nuts. I have tried moving it. but if I tweak that section...then the tailpipe gets all messed up and the leafspring is hitting the tailpipe. Have any of you guys encountered this before? Is there an easy fix to this? HELP!!! I AM GOING NUTS LISTENING TO THIS RATTLE!!!!
Chromer 01-28-2008, 09:48 AM Best thing to do would be with the truck on all 4 wheels, loosen all slip joints and twist offending sections to get the desired positioning. You may have to move more than just the tailpipe to get it all configured properly
Good luck

I tried that...when I move the section that is hitting...it moves the tailpipe and then the tailpipe hits...Has anyone else experienced this?
saratoga 01-28-2008, 10:57 AM You may have to move the sections ahead of the one that's hitting. May also have to bend the hangers a little (read: shipping damage).

Will try all of this stuff, this evening! I sure hope I can get it straightened out...the rattle is driving me nuts!
DSTRBD 01-28-2008, 12:53 PM How bad is it off? Loosen everything (VERY LOOSE) so the pipes can easily slip. Lign up the tail section first so it is perfect. Then move your way forward and tighten. Dont gorilla tighten, just take it easy the first pass through. If you start at the front, it can sometimes get out of whack and throw the whole system off.

Sure wish I would have known this Saturday when the truck was on the lift!!;)
christianman316 01-28-2008, 02:03 PM It is just hitting the shock...if it would move 1-1 1/2"...I would be good. Hopefully I can get it straightened out...anybody else ran across this??
fishingn 01-28-2008, 04:28 PM Looking to upgrade my exhaust on an 08 LMM. Can i just install the exhaust w/o any tuner. Already done the cold air intake. How hard is it to install. I dont have a lift, would have to work off ground....THinking of going with the Maganflow duals or MRBP's.. Which is better if any...

Is your lift a two post lift? When installing exhaust, as chromer said, it is important that all four tires are on the ground. Lifting by the frame alows the rear axle to drop. Just trying to help.:)

You don't HAVE to have a tuner, but you would then have to drive around with a check engine lite. Also, some write that after a certain amount of time driven with check engine lite, truck goes into limp mode.
I did not want a check engine lite on my brand new truck, so I opted for the tuner
Diesel Pete 01-28-2008, 07:37 PM Chromer,
I thought that if you install the filter back exhaust no codes should be thrown. I thought I read this from one of the MRBP reps on this forum.

Filter back = no codes, only for looks. Turbo Back = programmer to not throw codes, extra performance, decreased EGT's, no regen. etc.

What he said...
christianman316 01-29-2008, 08:51 AM I have had no codes so far on my set-up...just that freaking rattle that I have to fix asap!
dking 01-29-2008, 12:04 PM christianman316, How did you like the 4" magnaflow turboback? I am thinking that this is the system that i want. How is the sound? Also How hard was the down pipe replacement?

I like the sound...not too loud but a real good, deep throaty sound! Well you just replace the front pipe...not the actual downpipe! It only took about 1 hour on a lift...but now I am going to have to do some tweaking....it is hitting the shock...as the title states. Hit up nate...he will hook you up!
christianman316 01-30-2008, 09:31 AM Got her straightened out last night! Broke one of the freaking clamps(gorilla strength). But got her rigged up...no rubbing or vibration anywhere this morning. Now just got to get that tip welded on. Thanks for all the advice fellers!
RoadRunnerTR21 02-02-2008, 09:09 AM Good deal! I was just about to PM you and see if you got it resolved. I've been out of town and got a chance to look at my truck yesterday to see how you could have this situation.
Enjoy the new exhaust!
DSTRBD 02-02-2008, 12:07 PM Glad to hear man, I figured it just needed a little tweaking. Enjoy!
