Installed a pred about a week ago and like the performance however it is a hot little critter. The bottom end is better than Edge box but the rattle is bad. Runs hotter just cruising also but bark is a little better. Not sure yet

The rattle is my only complaint as well.

what's the rattle?

I'm assuming its the increased noise or (rattle) the diesel motor is making due to the engine timing changes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Ive got one in the mail and the 40hp tune appears to be the one I'll use, or at least start with!!!!!!.........Rick

Thanks for the info.

The combustion sound is intensified somewhat. This is where the mpg potential comes from as well as responsiveness. The LLY Predator is not nearly as aggressive as some other tuners, and in my opinion, this is a perfectley acceptable level. Future "custom" revisions could see the timing dropped back to stock I suppose if the user feels necessary. Combustion noise/sound is also affected greatly by fuel quality as in Cetane.

When you guys mention timing, what is it that is timed?

When speaking of timing on a Diesel they are referring to when the fuel is actually injected into the cylinder. It is some what similar to a gasser where timing determines when the plugs will fire to ignite the fuel charge. On a diesel motor the fuel ignites when it is injected into the cylinder vs. needing a spark to get things started, so timing a diesel is similar to a gasser in that you are “timing” the combustion event based on piston position in the cylinder.

Personally I’ve noticed with the Predator tuner that the engine noise (timing rattle) is significantly less with the 40HP tune than stock! With the 65HP tune I’d say the noise is very similar to stock, maybe just a bit louder but not much. On the 85HP level there is more engine noise than stock, but hey it’s a Diesel making a bunch of power it’s bound to make noise.

Don,t put pred on 100 hp setting and stack edge on top. Too much timing. edge on level 1 maybe but any higher and we surge and lose power

Edge, supposedly doesn't have timing in it, I think u have more of a fuel supply issue, others have found the same thing.
How old is your fuel filter?

I have mine on 65hp setting, I don't notice a rattle in it at all. When I first installed it you could tell a difference at 1,200 (fast idle) but now it's ok. If there is an increase in noise it's to be expected. If you don't want your truck to make any additional noise - leave it stock. Even on the 100hp setting I barely noticed an increase in noise, at least in the cab. Outside the cab I can hear the typical diesel pop slightly.

Edge does have a little timing

I went to the 85hp setting and the truck ran quietier and smoother than on the 65hp. At first, because of the smoothness, I thought there wasn't as much power as the 65hp setting. After driving it more, I feel like there is more power. I've had no limping yet and I've had quite a few wide open runs through all the gears. I don't think I'll try the 100hp setting. With two small children in the house, the money for a trans upgrade isn't lying around.

Is the de-fueling any better on 85 verses the 65? Have mine on 65 for about 10 days now and the de-fuel is terrible between trany shifts........Rick

The de-fuel seems to be directly linked to how much throttle you give it. If it de-fuels at all? When I first was reading up on the Predator everybody said it did not de-fuel, now everybody seems to be saying that it does de-fuel to an extent. Which is it? It feels like it de-fuels, but if it's not programmed to de-fuel, what are we feeling?
