You cant go wrong with the CAT or the Baldwin. Both have proven results. Just do not rely on the OEM to do the total job. It just aint gonna do it! Huh, boys? BTW, dont forget that Racor makes a better unit than the OEM. Aint that right Frank Blum?

Baldwin all the way , only $12 cnd and they work great. Been using them since i had my 01LB7 never had a problem. And you cant beat the price. Ac delco at the stealer is $28-35 cnd thats way overpriced.

The CAT 750 was specially designed as a secondary filter for dirty fuel problems with the high pressure injection system. The Racor & Baldwin have shown some excellent test results too. The CAT is $10.

Throwing in another curve, we also have a 1 micron synthetic media unit that fits a special version of the Mega head. New production units wil incorporate the seal retention groove for this element as well as the Baldwin. Both are sized for minimal pressure drop. If you go with Cat, I'd suggest the 755...

i already have the cat setup, i know the the cat will go down to about 2 microns, know nothing about the baldwin, just had a guy kinda pushing those on me, so i thought i would ask. is there a lot of different cat heads? got mine from Diesel Power an i think i have the 0749 filter???????

Moss,

if you got the CAT head from me it will fit either an 0750 or 0749 Cat filter. you can use the fleetguard/baldwin/etc equiv. if you prefer.

I also have a new kit coming out using a 1 micron 100% synthetic filter. due to the size difference in the heads, it will not fit the 0749/0750 filters.

HOW SOON WILL THIS KIT BE READY? HOW MUCH FOR KIT AND SPARE FILTERS?

Moss, I have a feeling the stanadyne fm100 filter pump heads use CAT filters;)

I have a FM100 and some spare filters and will look and see. My impression is that they did not, but I will confirm that. It would be really nice if that was true.

Well this is unconfirmed and not very scientific but to my supprise when I popped the access panel on our new CAT loader the fuel filter looks supprisingly simmilar. Different color of course. Stanadyne sells 5 and now 2 mic filters for the fm100's

Edit: I'm not saying they are the filter that every one is running becasue they arnt, just that I would be willing to bet its made by CAT.

Furthur edit: I will try to snap some pics......

CAT does not manufacture filters. Take your Baldwin and paint it yellow. Hey, you have a CAT filter.

If you take a CAT 0749 and the baldwin equivalent, you will notice the construction is entirely different. i don't know about all the filters cat makes, the 0749 and 0750 are definately not made by baldwin.

yeah dp, i got that from you. is there anywhere i can go to read up on your new heads?

I haven't realeased it yet. however it is basically the same kit i currently sell with a different head to fit the new larger filter. placement is the same as my current kit and it still uses the quick disconnect fittings to snap right onto the GM fittings so no cutting of stock lines is required. i'll post pictures once its ready.

I was under the impression that they did?

i seemed to remember reading somewhere that cat does in fact make their own fuel filters. is this true?

didn't answer my question, but here is some good info on cat filters. http://www.cat.com/cda/components/fullArticle?m=37418&x=7&id=87563

I checked my FM100 filter against my Baldwin (Cat equiv), and perhaps because I have the lift pump, it is very different and will not interchange - not even close.
Mt understanding is that Cat had problems with fuel filters so it built its own plant to manufacture them. The filters are never touched by humans in the whole precess - result is better, more consistant product.

I'm not saying its the same CAT filter that is being used here in the nictane kits. I'm saying it looks the exact same as a CAT filter/head assembly on a brand new CAT loader so I believe the Stanadyne filter is made by CAT since they look too similar(same mounting, same clear bowl and water seperator, same plastic screw ring thing that holds the bowl on and the filter on, ect). By deductive reasoning either its a massive coincidence that they look exactly alike short of color or they are the same filter. If they are the same filter either CAT made it, stanadyne made it, a 3 party made it and is selling it to CAT and stanadyne. I assume that since CAT went through all that work and decided that they want to make thier own filters that they wouldnt put a 3 party filter on a new loader. Just a string of WAGs that brought me to the assumption that CAT made the stuff for stanadyne. Not meaning to state it as fact as I havent really checked into it, just that i have a feeling they are the same.

It would be nice if I could find another brand filter, as the Stanadyne is rather small and at 5 micron probably will be the one needing the most frequent replacemant. I was unable to cross reference the Stanadyne number with anything. Perhaps you could get a Cat number off the loader. Thanks,

i've never cut open a cat oil filter, but the 0749 and 0750's look just like the fuel filters pictured in your link. the baldwin 0749 equiv i cut open doesn't look similar in any way.
