Just bought a 04 crew cab short bed silver duramax.Need some advice on what kind of aftermarket power upgrades I need. My last truck 02 cc sb duramax had a bully dog 4 inch exhaust, hypertech, and an air raid intake. i was pretty happy with that.heard alot about the edge juice w/attitude, but many people have stated they have had problems with the company backing their product...help please.

No problem with Edge backing it, they just don't seem to have the bugs worked out of the LLY yet. I assume you have the LLY. I sold my Edge and bought the Predator from Big Dawg Performance 3 weeks ago and I love it. Motor seems more powerful and more responsive than Edge. I am sure Edge will get back on top. Just don't know when. I have also tried the air intake and a 4" exhaust. My LLY seems to run best with K & N drop in filter and stock exhaust less cat.

The KN filter will give you nothing but extra dirt; dropping the cat will give you nothing. Ask for dyno charts to go with the snake oil. Ask for a money back guarontee if it does not make the power. You will find no such thing from snake oil salespeople. By the way; do all your dyno runs with the hood closed and no fan.):h

I have run K & N air filters for about 400,000 miles on Duramax's. I have had no trouble, and have had a head off 1 truck. Dealer said cylinders looked brand new. Truck had 175,000 miles on it. I run the K & N to keep the cost down.

Removing the cat tends to help lower EGT's according to my gauge. Maybe Mike L. wants to sell you snake oil, but I have nothing for you to buy. Just giving my opinion!

Rick

I suppose you had the dealer pull the head off to see how kleen it was? You can do as you please with your trucks but you should not be telling people to do the same. As far as me selling snake oil; go look at your posts Mr. expert. Picking up 5 women off the street does not make one a gynocholigist.):h

Mike L. might have a thing aginst somebody giving free advise. jtlawdog asked for advise. He did not ask for dyno sheets. I told him what "seemed" to work best for me. I did not tell him to do anything. As far as having the head pulled, I blew a head gasket at the dragstrip running stacked chips.

I deliver trailers for a living and document my driving, fuel economy, and mileage, very well.

And picking up 5 woman off the street may not make me a "gynecologist", but it sure would be fun!!

i agree with mike l. i run tractors and combines in worst possible conditions, more dirt trash in one year than most trucks see in a lifetime, and i would not use k and n filters, stock paper john deere filters for me. nelson 05 lly just my 2 cents

I bought and ran a foam filter becasue I believed it filtered as good as a stock delco paper and for Ricks reasons, one foam or keep buying papaers. Spicers research showed that it dosnt stop as much dirt, and a K&N passed even more dirt. Does it or a K&N filter enough dirt to get the job done and keep your motor happy? I duno, thats debatable and probably dependant on driving conditions. I decided though that for me paying a bit more $$$(by throwing filters away) and having the best avalible dirt stopping ability was the most important to me. Most of the time I run a stock ACdelco filter in the factory swisscheesed box. My very unscinetific testing showed that a stage 2 AFE intake with a standard cotton gauze filter(not the better filtering progaurd but the better flowing unit) showed 0 difference in ET's at the track. The intake does make a whole lot more wistel though:ro)

I have been useing K&N filters since 1972 (sponcered and free). The only engines I have ruined from injested dirt were with a straight K&N on. With a prefilter on (cloth or foam) they are acceptable. I run K&N prefilters on some excavators (for the cleanability) and the dirt that passes through plugs the primary filter at least once a year. THey are cleaned and serviced properly. Just my experience. Thanx geo.
