I just got back from a 5500 mile trip to the west coast pulling about 20,000 lbs. It seems like I was about half-way through the trip when there was times I would get a sharper diesel sound like a high compression knock or mabe it was the injecter knock that some have described. Now that I am back it seems like it is here to stay. It sounds like the ole' PSD diesels. I cannot have the truck go down on me. Do I have enough ammo. to make the dealer make it right, or should it be ignored. The truck runs great, nothing else seems to be amiss.

Dirt Farmer,
I think you may have an injector overfueling a cylinder:(, it is definitely worth having checked out, I don't believe your description of the symptom would fall under the "normal noises" catagory, in particular they will likey check for dtc's (codes) & check the balance rates of the injectors. You definitely do not want to overfuel anything towing 20,000 lbs. Even if they tell you all is good:rolleyes: (doubtful) at least it's documented, make a point that you do heavy towing, (nothing over the legal limit of course) & cannot afford to be stranded with a mechanical breakdown & to please be thorough in their diagnostics:), the noise is usually an early warning sign not to be ignored...don't let them;).
Todd.
