recently bought an 05 3500 dmax from a used car lot. it was a returned gmac lease that this guy picked up at the auction. he told me it had a warranty block put on it by gm because when the lease came back the cluster light was burned out on it and they could not read the km's. the truck has 60 000km's & runs great. the hrs match up with the km's. my question is,,,, is it possible to set back the milege on these speedo's. thanks.

The only way I know of would be if you were in kahoots with the electronic repair facility that fixes the speedos. When you have a failed cluster, the way GM handles the cluster replacement is you bring in your original one to the parts dept, they send it to repair facility who then takes a repaired core out of their stock, sets the cluster to your mileage and sends to dealer who sells it to you. If you knew someone at the electronics place, I suppose it would be possible to get one flashed with lower mileage, but I think it is very unlikely as they are understandably very strict on the mileage thing

I suppose the other way would be to get a low mileage cluster from a boneyard...

One of my buddies a few years back had an '01 or '02 1500. He replaced the dash with an escalade dash. Some how it took the escalades miles and put it on the truck. I am not sure why this happened. But it did I saw it for myself. He went from 40k+, to having low 20k.

Mileages are only stored in the cluster, so obviously the escy had 20k on it.

could have bought a cluster off of ebay... A lot of ppl sell refurb clusters and you are supposed to send the seller a paper with your miles on it so they can program it into the new cluster before they send it out.
